“Attack the opponent”: Michigan offensive coordinator sets clear expectations before 2026 season kicks off
Jason Beck has a very specific vision for what Michigan's offense is going to look like in 2026.
In a feature video posted by Michigan Football on X, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jason Beck laid out his offensive philosophy.
"This offense is all about who are our best players and we refer to it as a circle of trust. So, who are the guys that know what to do, can get their job done, can make plays? Because it's all about scoring points to win games," Beck said. "So, we want to be balanced. We want to be dynamic. We want to attack the opponent. It's all about who's going to score points to win games."
Beck has a record to point to. At Utah in 2025, his offense scored 41.2 points per game, fourth best in the country. They also ran for 266.3 yards per game, the second-best offense.
His coaching philosophy centers on teaching over anything else. Beck summed up how he sees his role.
"I look at coaching as teaching. You're fortunate to work with these players who love what they're doing, and so you just want to teach them, develop them, and help them become the very best they can," Beck said.
So, for coach Beck, the idea is simple: Create a "circle of trust" and put your best players in positions that suit them and build everything around that.
Michigan's offense ranked 113th in scoring in 2024 and 69th in 2025. Beck is walking into a program that has been starving for exactly what he does.
He has spent close to two decades coaching quarterbacks at every level. Taysom Hill, Bryce Perkins, Devon Dampier. All of them either made it to the NFL or put up serious production under his watch.
Jason Beck’s Utah offense last season was among the most efficient in the country
Utah ranked second in FBS in rushing offense, fourth in total offense and fifth in scoring last season under Beck, per the staff directory of MGoBlue.
The Utes also threw just five interceptions all season, the fewest in the entire country. For a program that lost Bryce Underwood's development due to the lack of a dedicated position coach last year, having Beck in charge changes the dynamic entirely.
CBS Sports named Beck the top offensive coordinator hire of the 2026 cycle. Michigan fans have been excited about the staff Whittingham brought in. Beck is a big reason why.
Do you think Jason Beck can turn Michigan's offense into a top unit in 2026? Let us know in the comments.
