Benched Over Injury, Michigan Edge John Daley’s Return Timeline Confirmed
Michigan Edge John Henry Daley had said earlier that he would make his return in June. But a recent update revealed that he is set to rejoin the Wolverines earlier than expected. His recovery from a 2025 Achilles injury has moved his return date up to May.
According to the Michigan insider Brice Marich, John Henry Daley is still expected to be full-go before the targeted goal of June 1st. Moreover, he is expected to be completely ready even before full camp happens. The post was accompanied by a video of Daley training.
Daley has been out of action since his Achilles injury late in the Utes' 2025 season. This was followed by months of rehabilitation. In his last interview with UM media, he had stated that he would be ready to play in June.
"I've already communicated it with coach Whit [Kyle Whittingham], but yeah, June 1 is when they're expecting me to be full go. Being able to participate in all the team activities, so yeah, should be really soon," said Daley
Daley had confessed back then how he felt when healthy. He also clarified that he is in a recovery process, able to jog and run. Ever since the Wolverines opened spring practice on March 17, Daley has been on the sidelines.
Playing as a redshirt sophomore in 2025, Daley had 48 tackles, including 17 1/2 for loss (tied for best in the country). He also had 11 1/2 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a pass breakup in 11 games.
Beyond Daley's recovery, Kyle Whittingham's program is also making strides on the recruiting trail.
Michigan Football Makes Cut For Top Defensive Tackle
According to the Wolverines Wire, four-star prospects OT Jakari Lipsey, Edge Jayce Brewer, and WR Quentin Burrell have already officially committed to the Wolverines for 2027.
Now, another four-star DT, Seth Tillman, has named Michigan as one of the five schools he is interested in. The remaining four were Clemson, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Georgia.
According to 247Sports, he has "shown flashes of snap anticipation" and is "nimble" in tight quarters. He also has other positive traits in his game, demonstrating the strength to push back and physically overwhelm opponents.
The 6'2.5 player weighs in at about 295 pounds. He is also ranked highly by Rivals, which puts him at No 116 in the country. It also makes him the second-best player in South Carolina.
So Michigan is taking all the right steps. Kyle Whittingham's program is getting noticed by the players, and that is positive.
