Best Team: Tom Brady blown away by Lionel Messi's World Cup squad

Tom Brady has spent his career around championship teams, and the NFL legend believes Argentina is showing exactly what makes great teams successful.

In an episode of the Stick to Football podcast of The Overlap, Brady praised the defending World Cup champions for the way they play together rather than relying on individual brilliance.

"I think the best teams play well together as a team. I watch some of these teams, like Argentina, and they play so well together," Brady said.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion pointed to Lionel Messi as an example. While Brady called Messi "the best player to ever play the game," he was equally impressed by his captaincy role.

"The other night, you could tell Messi is incredible, the best player to ever play the game, but it's not like every ball goes to him," Brady said. "The ball moves around. When it comes to Messi, he puts the ball to someone else. They all celebrate together. They look like a team."

He also pointed out Argentina's chemistry with other teams in the tournament. "There are other teams that don't quite look like a team."

The praise comes as Argentina continues another strong World Cup run led by Messi.

Brady's comments also reflect a philosophy that guided his own career. During his seven Super Bowl-winning seasons, Brady's focus was on teamwork over individual records.

While Argentina's teamwork impressed Brady, Messi's historic run has also caught the NFL legend's attention.

Tom Brady also reflected on watching Messi make World Cup history

Brady has been following the World Cup closely and recently shared some of his favorite memories from the competition.

"It was a great time. I had all three of my kids with me. We're actually going to be at the World Cup final together here in New Jersey," Brady said in the same Stick to Football podcast.

The former Patriots quarterback said his love for soccer started long before his NFL career.

"I've always loved Brazilian soccer. I've been a soccer fan since I was young. My middle sister played, and all of us played growing up."

Messi became the all-time leading scorer in FIFA World Cup history during Argentina's victory over Austria at AT&T Stadium.

The Argentine captain entered the match tied with former Germany striker Miroslav Klose on 16 World Cup goals.

His goal in the 38th minute gave him first place on the all-time scoring list. He later added another goal in stoppage time to extend the record to 18 career World Cup goals, as per an ESPN report.

Although Brady grew up cheering for Brazil, Argentina's blend of teamwork and star power has clearly left an impression. With Messi’s record, the World Cup has given Brady plenty to admire.
