Brendan Sorsby's Agent Attacks Cincinnati Instead of Texas Tech For Ignoring QB’s Red Flags

Texas Tech has received endless scrutiny this season. They were flagged for backing their quarterback, Brendan Sorsby, over serious NCAA allegations. But his agent, Ron Slavin, has held another program accountable for their inaction.

“If anybody should be questioned or catching heat, it should be Cincinnati,” Slavin said on June 17. “Because they knew for two years and never said anything or didn’t do anything about it. That’s the part of the story that gets lost.”

Sorsby, 22, was deemed ineligible to play college football by the NCAA after his g******* and placing b*** habits came to light. The Texas Tech Red Raiders player was part of the Cincinnati Bearcats and had placed b*** on one of his former programs, the Indian Hoosiers in 2022.

In four years, Sorsby had wagered around $90,000 on several teams across sports. After he was brought under investigation by the NCAA, Sorsby countered by filing a lawsuit against the governing body.

Earlier this month, Judge Ken Curry granted him the temporary injunction he was seeking. He was allowed to resume his football activities, but not with a suspension from the first two games of the season.

Slavin praised the Texas Tech Red Raiders, particularly their head coach, Joey McGuire. He did not hold the program responsible for Sorsby’s activities.

“The people at Tech have been great, very supportive,” Slavin said via 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “Joey McGuire, I think, is one of the best human beings on the planet. A lot of head coaches are transactional. He is not. They didn’t do anything wrong here.”

Sorsby has since declared for the NFL supplemental draft, and the Bearcats have made a statement after Slavin’s comments gained attention.

Cincinnati Bearcats Give A Curt Response To Ron Slavin’s Assertions

Breandan Sorsby wore the Cincinnati Bearcats jersey for two seasons from 2024 to 2025. Following his agent, Ron Slavin, holding them accountable for not intervening, they made their stance known.

“We will reiterate what we have said before,” Cincinnati said via On3’s Pete Nakos. “All of our student-athletes receive extensive gambling education multiple times throughout the year, and we would never knowingly play an athlete who violated NCAA sports wagering regulations. If we ever became aware of impermissible wagering, we would report to the NCAA and comply with sanctions.”

In 2024, Sorsby gained 2,813 passing yards, threw 18 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions. In the next season, he recorded 2,800 passing yards and 27 passing TDs and five INTs.

Sorsby exited from college football and is now preparing for an NFL career. How it will turn out is to be seen. What are your thoughts?
