Bryce Underwood Reacts After Max Bredeson Joins JJ McCarthy at Vikings
The former five-star recruit and the No. 1 player in the nation, Bryce Underwood, the quarterback of the Michigan Wolverines, wasted no time in showing some love to his teammates who just entered the NFL.
On his Instagram handle, the dual-threat signal caller re-posted a picture posted by Michigan Football in collaboration with the Minnesota Vikings and gave a shoutout to his former fullback/tight-end, Max Bredeson.
“THE ONE! MY GUY!!” Underwood captioned the story.
Bredeson was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in round 5 as their 159th overall pick.
“The Vikings selected former Wolverines fullback Max Bredeson in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft on Saturday, providing the team a replacement for two-time Pro Bowl FB C.J. Ham, who retired in March,” wrote the Vikings' official website writer, Rob Kleifield.
Though the pair, Max Brededon and Bryce Underwood, played together for only one season. The senior and team captain helped in mentoring his incoming freshman quarterback.
"Me [Max Bredeson] and Bryce were roommates for camp, and that was fun," Bredeson said in 2025. "A lot of great things. Obviously, you get to see him play football. It's cool to see that stuff, but the way he talks to people, the way he interacts in the building, that's really special. I got to be around him every day for a month straight."
"You get to see what someone's really like. If you go back to a hotel room after a three-hour practice, you get to see the real version of them. The real version is as good as it can be."
Underwood went on to start as a true freshman quarterback for the Wolverines in the 2025 season. He has been named QB1 by coach Kyle Whittingham for the 2026 CFB season as well, even after a poor showing at Michigan’s Spring game.
What Did Bredeson Learn From Underwood?
Though a senior and almost at the tail end of his college career, Max Bredeson said he also picked up a few things from the young quarterback.
"I don't know exactly what I was trying to get out of it, but I just knew it could help the team," Bredeson said last year. "Just being around each other every day...So I got a lot out of it from him, too. It wasn't all about me trying to be around him. A lot of good things came from me around him, too."
The quarterbacks are called field-generals for a reason, and Bredeson helped Underwood understand the importance of leadership.
That said, Bredeson reunites with J.J. McCarthy in Minnesota. The two have played together for three seasons from 2021 to 2023.
