Clemson Football Makes Desperate Plea as DL Hevin Brown-Shuler Battles Cancer
Clemson’s athletics department shared that its defensive lineman Hevin Brown-Shuler has been diagnosed with cancer. His family has asked for financial support, which Clemson Football has amplified.
“Hevin Brown-Shuler’s treatments and journey to defeating Hodgkin lymphoma have begun. The Clemson Family stands with you, @HevyDutyBS!” they wrote in an X post on May 24.
Brown-Shuler shared the news about his health earlier this month.
“Recently, after doctors discovered a mass in my chest, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. While this news was difficult to receive, I am grateful that the prognosis is very good, and I am approaching this challenge with optimism and determination,” the May 19 release said.
His godparents released a GoFundMe on the same day as the X post. Their target goal is $50,000, and they have raised $20,721 as of May 26. According to GoFundMe, Brown-Shuler’s mother has temporarily closed her business to prioritize her son’s care.
These funds would ensure medical care, daily needs, and travel for Brown-Shuler. Even in this difficult time, the 21-year-old has not lost hope thanks to his support system.
“I have already experienced incredible care and support from the Clemson community and my Pace community,” he said in the release.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney shared a message on behalf of many in support of his journey ahead.
“The Clemson Family and the entire college football world are with Hevin as he begins treatment this month. As a program, we’ll wrap our arms around him and his family as he steps away from football temporarily to focus on his health,” he said per Clemson’s website.
The Tigers will have to play this season without Brown-Shuler as their DL, who left a mark on the team since day one.
Hevin Brown-Shuler’s College Career So Far
Hevin Brown-Shuler is a redshirted sophomore who committed to the Clemson Tigers in 2023 and enrolled in 2024. He has played for the Tigers since then.
In his rookie season on the collegiate level, he racked up five tackles and 49 defensive snaps over four games.
In the 2025 season, he played 57 defensive snaps and registered one tackle over three games. He contributed one tackle against Furman.
He disrupted a third-and-goal rush attempt against Penn State, which led to a tackle for loss by safety Ronan Hanafin.
The former four-star recruit starts his treatment soon and is expected to miss this season. He has reassured his well wishers that would return for the 2027 season.
“Thank you for your continued kindness and support. I can’t wait to run down that hill and touch Howard’s Rock again for the 2027 football season.”
Our wishes are with Hevin Brown-Shuler during his treatment and recovery.
