College football player taken to court over the possession of illegal substance
Georgia defensive back Ja'Marley Riddle spent two months with felony charges regarding d*** possession hanging over his head. However, that chapter is now closed, per reports. The state's motion for dismissal explained why the DA's office walked away.
"The vape liquid may have contained T**. The State is unable to determine the T** level, if any, of the liquid," the motion read, per a July 9 report by Athens Banner-Herald.
The GBI lab was not in a position to measure T** levels in vape liquid at this time. The motion also laid out Riddle's background as a factor for the dismissal.

"The defendant is a 19-year-old university student with no criminal record and who volunteered with 'Where Colors Shine,' a program to help children with cancer," the motion read, per the July 9 Athens Banner-Herald report.
The District Attorney's Office in Brunswick filed a 'Nolle Prosequi' in the Superior Court of Glynn County on July 6, meaning they would not prosecute. All three charges against Riddle, including the speeding violation, have been dismissed.
The case dates back to May 8, when Glynn County police pulled Riddle over on I-95 South for driving 90 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone. Per Athens Banner-Herald, officers found a vape device in the vehicle after smelling m******** upon approaching it.
Riddle had been charged with possession of m******** over one ounce, possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance, and a misdemeanor for speeding.
The vape device was also found in the rear seat area of Riddle's car, outside of his immediate reach, which played into the state's inability to establish clear possession.
Ja’Marley Riddle joined Georgia as a transfer from East Carolina this offseason
Riddle is from Kingsland, Georgia, which sits in Glynn County where the arrest took place. He transferred to Georgia from East Carolina ahead of the 2026 season.
Georgia Athletics said on May 14 it was gathering information about the situation but declined to comment further while the legal case was ongoing, per the Athens Banner-Herald.
With the charges now fully dismissed, Riddle's focus can shift entirely back to football. Georgia opens the 2026 season in early September, and Riddle is expected to compete for snaps in the secondary.
