Day 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft is done in Pittsburgh, and overall, it was a good day for the Ohio State University head coach, Ryan Day.

WR Carnell Tate (4th), LB Arvell Reese (5th), and LB Sonny Styles (7th) were the three OSU players who got picked in the Top 10.

Unfortunately for Day, the Barstool Sports Chief, Dave Portnoy, decided to ruin the moment and poke fun at him and the OSU.

He took to X and said how Ohio State still can't figure out how to beat Michigan, and the team is somehow being pitted against NFL-level talent expectations.

"Coach, coach, coach can you explain how you have 5 of the top 10 picks and you still can’t win the Big 10?" said Portnoy.

Losses in the crucial play situations have brought out the criticism of the team going back to the times when they had strong recruiting and consistent drafting of players to the NFL.

Since Day took over as the Ohio head coach, they have struggled against the Michigan Wolverines. Although they have a 2-4 record against them, last season, the story was different.

The Ohio State finally got a victory over the Wolverines on Saturday, 29th November. In a 27-19 win, the wide receiver Carnell Tate, who got picked by the Titans in the 2026 NFL Draft, scored a touchdown for 82 yards in 5 receptions.

Although the OSU hasn't had much success against the Wolverines, they have experienced some huge moments at the draft over the years.

Notable Ohio State Players Among the First 10 Picks in the NFL Draft

Ohio State continues to be one of the leading contributors in bringing players to the NFL among college football schools.

The Buckeyes have not only one or two but several high-quality players in different positions, such as quarterback, defensive end, and cornerback, who usually succeed in transitioning from Columbus to the NFL at a very high level.

In particular, the best Ohio State football players drafted into the NFL draft over the last few years include C. J. Stroud (No. 2 overall, 2023), Chase Young (No. 2 overall, 2020), Jeff Okudah (No. 3 overall, 2020), and Joey Bosa (No. 3 overall, 2016).

It is because of this very reason that Ohio State University now enjoys recognition as not only a team that attracts talent like never before but also produces talent that is instantly NFL material.
