Deion Sanders set up for major boost in Big 12 Conference
Deion Sanders came to Colorado Buffaloes promising to change the program that struggled with a 1-11 overall record. Four seasons in, the results on the field haven't always backed that up. But something is shifting in Boulder right now.
"That's enough for now!?!" Sanders posted on social media in response to a list of the Buffaloes' commits, per Bleacher Report.
The 2027 recruiting class already has 18 commits, the most Sanders has ever pulled in a single cycle at Colorado, per SI.
"With their 18 commits in the 2027 recruiting class, Colorado has surpassed their previous high of 17 commits under Sanders from the 2023 recruiting class," wrote SI analyst Cory Pappas. "There are still months to go before this 2027 class is final, but signs are pointing to this number getting larger, not smaller."

Last year was the low point. Colorado finished ranked No. 67 nationally and 15th out of 16 Big 12 teams in the 2026 recruiting cycle with 20 recruits, according to On3. That's near the bottom of a power conference, and it showed on the field, too.
Colorado went 3-9 in 2025. Second time in three years they didn't make a bowl game under Sanders. That kind of record creates pressure.
The response to it is how this class is being built. Way more high school kids, way less reliance on the portal than before.
247Sports has them at 35 in the country right now. That's fourth in the Big 12, with Texas Tech, Kansas State, and West Virginia sitting ahead of them.
Three of the 18 commits carry four-star ratings on Rivals. Quarterback Andre Adams, out of Nashville, threw for 3,418 yards, 35 touchdowns, and just one interception.
Wide receiver Jaiden Kelly-Murray from Summerville, South Carolina, hauled in 64 catches for 957 yards and 14 touchdowns that same year. Safety Gabe Jenkins from Pittsburgh recorded 24 tackles and three tackles for loss in 2025.
This new version of Colorado has already put a Big 12 coach on high alert.
A Big 12 rival coach is already taking notice of what Sanders is building
It's not just the rankings that are turning heads. An anonymous Big 12 coach told J.D. Pickell of On3 that Colorado has genuinely caught his attention.
"They're interesting. You got a young, hungry OC [offensive coordinator Brennan Marion] who has head coach experience. I love the DC [defensive coordinator] hire [Chris Marve]," PicKell read as posted by JaKi Truth on X. "I really like the skill players they have. It's going to depend on whether they can protect the passer and how good Julian Lewis will be."
New offensive coordinator Brennan Marion brings head coaching experience from Sacramento State in 2025. Defensive coordinator Chris Marve was a hire that drew praise from multiple corners of the conference.
Under his leadership as defensive coordinator, the Virginia Tech Hokies finished second in total defense in 2023.
