Deion Sanders Speaks Out Brendan Sorsby Controversy: Something's Wrong
The list of people against Brendan Sorsby’s temporary injunction has a new addition, and it is none other than Deion Sanders. The Colorado Buffaloes coach has expressed his views on the Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback’s legal situation.
“Somebody’s g******* on a sport they’re playing? You don’t think something’s wrong with that?” Sanders said, per On3 on June 15. “Just say that to yourself: This guy on my team is g******* on the sport, in the competition, that we’re about to go out there and have. Something’s wrong with that.”
The 22-year-old is under the NCAA’s investigation for violating serious guidelines on placing b*** and g******* as a student-athlete. Sorsby placed b*** on many teams, including the Indiana Hoosiers in 2022 when he was a part of the squad.
Reports suggest that over four years, Sorsby wagered around $ 90,000. He used his friends and family’s sportsbook accounts to carry out his activities.
He then countered the college football governing body by filing a lawsuit seeking an injunction for his eligibility to play. Judge Ken Curry granted him a preliminary injunction, permitting him to resume football activities after the NCAA had put a stop to them.
According to sources, Judge Curry ruled that prohibiting Sorsby from playing football would cause him to “suffer probable, imminent, and irreparable injury.”
The Red Raiders’ quarterback has maintained that the NCAA is “deeply hypocritical” for its stance on his b***** activities.
In his conversation with the Associated Press on June 15, Sanders explained how Sorsby might’ve affected that game even if he never played in them.
“The game is still the game,” the Hall of Famer told the AP. “The game is just positioned differently. Money’s involved, and any time money’s involved, people tend to migrate to what they think they can get out of it, instead of what they could put into it, and that’s unfortunate.”
As this historic development reverberates across college football, Sanders’ program has made its stance known on this matter.
Colorado Buffaloes Athletic Director Makes A Statement Against Brendan Sorsby’s Injunction
Fernando Lovo, the athletic director of the Colorado Buffaloes, agrees with his counterparts across the Power 4 conferences over the ruling in favor of Brendan Sorsby. He made a strongly worded statement criticising the move.
“The injunction issued regarding Brendan Sorsby is troubling as his admitted actions are a clear violation of long-held standards of integrity in college athletics,” Lovo said on June 13. “Caring for student-athletes is important, but so is accountability.”
He expressed his views to FOX’s Trey Wallace in a June 13 interview. Deion Sanders, the Buffs’ head coach, made his statement against Sorsby soon after Lovo shared his views on the matter.
