Elite 4-Star Michigan commit sends brutal message to 15+ schools interested in him
Four-star tight end Colt Lumpris seems to have made his call on Thursday. He is locked in with Michigan and not entertaining any other options heading into his senior season.
Lumpris is a top-ranking player out of The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey. On3's Ethan McDowell reported this week that the tight end considers his recruitment completely shut down.
"It was very good," Lumpris told Maize n Brew of his early visit to Ann Arbor. "I felt the experience was special and different."
That feeling from his visit was the starting point. Tight ends coach Freddie Whittingham and head coach Kyle Whittingham then built on it consistently over months.

Lumpris even went on a secret, under-the-radar unofficial visit to Ann Arbor to see the Michigan coaching staff, according to On3's July 17 report.
When Michigan moved fast and locked him in before his scheduled Alabama official visit on May 29, Lumpris never looked back.
The message is as direct as it gets in recruiting. Over 15 schools had expressed serious interest in Lumpris at various points, including Penn State, Texas A&M, Florida, and Rutgers.
He also made clear exactly how he sees himself fitting into Michigan's offense.
"I feel that I fit in as a receiving threat. Like their big wide receiver," Lumpris told Maize n Brew. "I feel like they get developed and get the ball."
That self-assessment makes complete sense when you look at how Michigan uses its tight ends. Colston Loveland, who went tenth overall to the Chicago Bears in the 2025 NFL Draft, was used as a matchup weapon rather than a traditional blocking tight end.
Lumpris is 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds, ranked No. 268 overall in the Rivals Industry Ranking and No. 15 among tight ends nationally.
Michigan currently holds 21 commitments in the 2027 class, and Lumpris is the only tight end in the group. He becomes one of the most physically imposing prospects in the entire class.
Colt Lumpris was committed to Alabama before Michigan flipped him
Here's what makes this one bigger than a normal commitment story. Lumpris had initially given his word to Alabama and had been locked in since December 9, 2025.
Then Michigan came back around. Once Whittingham's staff was actually in place, they re-offered him in early February.
The relationship building from there happened fast and quietly. Michigan secured the flip before Lumpris could even take his scheduled official visit to Tuscaloosa.
"Just staying in contact with coach, both Whitts, and talking to them was important," Lumpris told 247Sports after committing.
Beating Alabama in a recruitment, especially for a prospect who had been committed to them for months, is one of the better recruiting stories Michigan has had this cycle. Lumpris shutting it all down now means that chapter is fully closed.
