Elite recruit who grew up as a Ohio State fan admits he “loves Michigan”

Brayton Feister is torn between childhood loyalty and the appeal of a new coaching regime. The recruitment war among programs has reached its peak; the Michigan Wolverines are the reason why the four-star defensive back is reconsidering the Ohio State Buckeyes.

“Michigan, the new coaching staff—this is like their third coaching staff— but the Utah coaching staff, we love them guys,” Feister told On3. “They’ve showed up to our house twice now, I think. Showed up for dinner, had a nice dinner with them. We really liked them guys.”

The Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes are vying hard for the Massillon player for their 2027 class. According to 247 Sports, Feister has 35 offers and has made four visits so far. The Ohio native grew up loving the Buckeyes naturally.

However, as his talents have made an impression on programs across the Power Four, the Buckeyes are leaving no stone unturned to sway him to their side. The school has been chasing him since January. Their linebackers coach, James Laurinaitis, stopped by Archbishop Hoban, Feister’s former high school, to talk to him.

“It's awesome. Obviously being an Ohio kid, I grew up watching Ohio State, so it definitely means a lot,” Feister had told Bucknuts. “(My family and I) always grew up Ohio State fans, if you're born in Ohio, everyone is an Ohio State fan, so we grew up Ohio State fans.”

It is not surprising to know that Kyle Whittingham’s coaches met him over and over, as reported by On3.

Feister is a multi-sport athlete who wrestled alongside playing playing football. Standing at 6’2 and weighing 238 lbs, he offers physical prowess from both sports that is rarely seen among recruits.

In his evaluation of Feister, 247 Sports Andrew Ivins highlighted his build and its implications for the team he would join eventually.

“No stranger to the weight room and tips the scales right around 6-foot-2, 235 pounds,” he wrote before adding “Shoots gaps and gets to the football with exceptional closing burst.”

These arch-rivals aren’t only the elite program chasing him. The Oregon Ducks, who had a historic season last year but narrowly missed making history, are on hot heels. Reports suggest that the Ducks even have the lead over the two programs.

Brayton Feister predicted to commit to an entirely different Big Ten program

According to 247 Sports, defensive back Brayton Feister is projected to commit to Oregon. The program sits second on the list of offers. Denoted as ‘warm’ on this list, it is behind Georgia and is trailed by Ohio State.

The Ducks are planning for the future and hosted not just Feister but also his brother Braydon. He is a standout prospect for the 2028 class. The defensive back duo visited the college early in April, as reported by Oregon Ducks on Sports Illustrated

“Over the first weekend in April, the Ducks rolled out the green carpet for two brothers covering both classes from Ohio that a big screen graphic in the Moshofsky Center (Oregon's current indoor practice field) stated are “the future of the Oregon defense,”” the April 18 article read.

The Big Ten is trailing behind Brayton Feister to win him. While he is split between two and projected to pick another, only an official announcement can clear up this conundrum. What are your thoughts?
