ESPN analyst faces serious investigation over alleged fantasy football scam days after devastating accident

A Reddit thread has turned into a full-blown investigation against ESPN’s Matt Miller. The issue gained traction online after Miller announced he was caught in a near-fatal accident and sustained life-altering injuries.

“The Missouri Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller, confirming to Awful Announcing in a statement that it has 'an open investigation into this issue,'” Awful Announcing reported on July 2.

According to the report, Miller was operating a scam as a commissioner of over 91 fantasy leagues in 2025. He hosted these leagues on the fantasy platform Sleeper.

“While league setups varied, they largely followed a common thread: half of the league’s entry fee would go to a charity (sometimes the exact charity was stated; other times not), and the other half would go to the top finishers,” the initial July 1 report by Awful Announcing stated.

Authorities began investigating Miller after he survived a major accident just days before these reports came to light.

On June 17, Miller’s car crashed into a semi-truck. According to his GoFundMe, the accident was so severe that he had to be extracted from his vehicle and airlifted to the hospital. His well-wishers set up the GoFundMe, asking for $55,000 in support.

So far, they have raised $51,272 as wishes poured in for Miller online. However, while he was hospitalized, a Reddit thread called “Matt Miller Leagues and Scam” caught attention online.

“Anyone in a league run by ESPN’s Matt Miller and not get paid as a winner?” the May 21 thread read. “He has ghosted ours since the championship and provided 0 communication on what funds went to charity/providing payouts to the winners. I’ve seen a few others in the same boat and wanted to see if this is a wider-spread problem than a couple leagues.”

This post now has over 180 comments, with many sharing their experiences and screenshots for proof. While the credibility of all these screenshots cannot be guaranteed, the reports highlighted a “clear and consistent pattern.”

ESPN declined to comment, per Awful Announcing.

Matt Miller’s response to these allegations

Reports state that Matt Miller said he lost access to his Sleeper account as well as various email and social media accounts. He cited this as the reason why he never got back to any of the payment requests.

Awful Announcing wrote that Miller asked to be contacted via email when they called him for a response. When they did, they did not hear back from him before publishing their first report. Moreover, ESPN declined to comment again after they refused to address Miller’s future with them.

As of now, the Missouri Attorney General’s Office is directly soliciting complaints from anyone with relevant information. Their place of residence does not matter.
