Fans tell Brendan Sorsby to 'hang up the cleats' as his last playing option falls through

The Canadian Football League has shut its door for Brendan Sorsby. The quarterback has intended to transition from college football to a pro league. However, the CFL has announced that it will not allow the controversial quarterback to join any of its teams.

“The CFL will not allow Brendan Sorsby to join its league this season,” NFL insider Adam Schefter posted on June 26.

According to ESPN, Sorsby has not publicly shown an interest in the CFL, but his options are limited. Sorsby had declared for the NFL Supplemental Draft, which the league will not hold as per a June 23 announcement.

“Upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition are paramount to the CFL,” the CFL stated to USA Today. “The allegations involving Brendan Sorsby are serious and concerning. At this time, the CFL will not register a contract for him, and no team will be permitted to add him to its negotiation list.”

Sorsby admitted to g******* over $90,000 as a student-athlete in college and pro sports in four years. He also wagered on his team, the Indiana Hooseirs, in 2022. The NCAA deemed him ineligible to play for this rule violation in May 2026.

He sought, and was granted, a temporary injunction to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Big 12 program, however, parted ways with him shortly after. ESPN reported that Sorsby’s attorney, Jeffrey Kessler, stated that the NFL’s decision not to hold a supplemental draft is a CBA violation.

He also stated that they would pursue legal action over this. As Sorsby’s hopes to kickstart a pro career frizzle away, fans don’t have his back either.

Fans tell Brendan Sorsby to give up football for good

Under Adam Schefter’s X post, fans shared their stance on the recent developments.

“BROTHER when the NFL and CFL both say no, maybe it’s time to hang up the cleats for a season and work on the real issue. Football will be there later. The parlays can wait forever,” one fan commented, asking him to work on his g********.

One fan counted what other options Sorsby is left with.

“Too bad the UFL moved their season into the Spring, mostly after the draft. What are his options: Arena Football, CoFL, LFA(Mexico)?” one reply read.

“Time for Brendan Sorsby to get a job,” another wrote.

“No  league wants this guys(crying emoji)” one commented as the series of developments.

Another fan replied that authorities and leagues are highlighting this landmark case as a warning for all.

“Everybody making an example out of Sorsby,” they wrote.
