Former college football All-American arrested in kidnapping case

Terrion Arnold, the Detroit Lions cornerback, was arrested on June 24 in a case involving kidnapping and robbery. The All-American athlete from the Alabama Crimson Tide has been charged in a case that goes back to February in Tampa, Florida.

“Arnold made his first appearance in Hillsborough County Court on Thursday after voluntarily surrendering to authorities at Orient Road Jail in Tampa. He is facing four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery and is being held without bond,” The Athletic reported on June 25.

According to the report, the Tampa Police Department announced the development on the night of June 24. The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office also made a statement on Arnold’s arrest.

“Arnold is facing multiple felony charges, which carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison,” the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office statement read.

According to The Athletic, police had arrested six other people involved in the incident. The report describes it as an “effort to lure” three people into an apartment in retaliation for reportedly robbing Arnold’s rental property in Largo, Florida.

He, however, appears to be the primary conspirator based on evidence gathered after investigations. Arnold called a police station at 10 p.m. ET on February 3 to report that he was robbed of $100,000 in cash, an $80,000 necklace, and other possessions.

The reported robbery and kidnapping of three individuals in their late teens occurred in Tampa a few hours later.

When asked about the incident in his last minicamp with the Lions, he refused to give away any details.

“But I mean, as far as stuff like that, I just feel like, kinda, when certain things happen in life, it’s best to, like, remain silent. I mean, you speak on stuff if you wanna speak on it, at the end of the day, like, silence is sometimes the best answer,” he told reporters on June 17.

Terrion Arnold’s Alabama career

Terrion Arnold is a Florida native and played for the Florida State University School in Tallahassee in his high school years. He was then part of the Alabama Crimson Tide between 2021 and 2023.

After inactivity in his redshirt freshman season, Arnold played in 11 games and started in seven the following year. He earned Freshman All-SEC honors for recording 45 tackles, 1 interception, and 8 pass defenses.

In 2023, he started 14 games and led the SEC with five interceptions and defended 17 passes. Arnold also recorded 63 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and one sack. He earned First-Team All-America recognition for that performance.

The Detroit Lions picked him 24th overall in 2024.
