Former college football standout and Super Bowl winner passes away

Former Memphis Tigers standout Jordan Devey, who made a name for himself across five NFL teams and won a Super Bowl, has sadly passed away at the age of 38.

"Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time," a post on a fundraising page read.

According to Devey’s mother, Leslie, the family suspected that he was suffering from CTE. However, the circumstances of his death reportedly prevented doctors from confirming the neurodegenerative condition.

His wife, Linsey Devey, shared a heartbreaking message on her Instagram account on July 24. The post showed a photo of the former NFL player on his hospital bed, and the caption revealed that it would have been the couple's 15th anniversary that day.

“We brought 4 beautiful children into this world that have your eyes, freckles, and compassion. You were our hero, and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, 'we'll talk soon',” wrote Linsey.

Having spent eight seasons with different teams in the league, Devey started his career at Snow College in Utah before transferring to the University of Memphis.

Playing at right tackle, right guard, and left tackle, his contributions earned him the DeAngelo Williams Most Valuable Player Award.

Devey retired in 2021 after playing just one game for the Buffalo Bills. In his eight-year NFL journey, he played in 44 career games and had 21 starts across five teams.

He was part of the New England Patriots' Super Bowl-winning team in 2014, and the following year, he played 15 games for the San Francisco 49ers, making nine starts.

The family is now facing financial difficulties and has launched a GoFundMe campaign with a $200,000 fundraising goal. Devey is survived by his parents, his wife, and their four children.

Jordan Devey's tragic passing rocked his former school team

Before his ultimate demise, Devey had been announced as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Eagle High School in Eagle, Idaho.

The news of his passing left the school's management heartbroken. His team shared a heartfelt message through their official Instagram account for their coach.

“Our community has lost an incredible mentor, coach, and friend, but his legacy will continue to live on through the generations of young athletes he inspired. Jordan, thank you for everything you gave to Eagle and to youth sports. You will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and never forgotten. Rest easy, Coach,” wrote the school.

The former Super Bowl champion may be gone, but his memory and legacy will live on. As the NFL mourns his loss, so do we.
