Former Michigan target, committed to a Big Ten rival, ranked No.1 quarterback in a fresh update

Michigan went all out to land Trae Taylor, only to watch him choose Nebraska in 2025 after a lengthy recruiting battle. It barely stung then. Now, recent developments might have shown just how much this could sting in the future.

National Recruiting and Transfer Portal reporter for Rivals, Hayes Fawcett, recently revealed on X that Rivals has updated its industry rankings, with Taylor receiving a massive boost in the latest update.

“NEW: Following today's Rivals300 update, Five-Star QB Trae Taylor is now the No. 1 QB in the 2027 Rivals Industry Rankings. It’s been quite the summer for the Nebraska commit,” wrote Fawcett.

In his X post, National Recruiting and Transfer Portal reporter Hayes Fawcett expressed that this summer has been really fruitful for Taylor, as in addition to his No. 1 QB status, he also earned the five-Star status and elite 11 MVP status.

Apart from earning the No. 1 quarterback ranking, Taylor climbed 53 spots from No. 70 to No. 17 overall in the latest Rivals rankings, securing a top-20 spot in the Class of 2027.

The Nebraska commit is also ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and the No. 8 overall prospect in the 247Sports rankings.

Reacting to the updated rankings, Taylor reshared the post and made it clear that the job isn't done.

“Jobs not finished, blessed for it all, THE JOB IS NOT FINISHED. So much work to be done. @HuskerFootball @MSouthFootball @PlayBookAthlete @Elite11 @adidasFballUS,” wrote Taylor on his X handle.

He is one of the biggest talents of the future, and Nebraska is betting big on him, but other colleges have not given up on recruiting him just yet.

Trae Taylor shares his thoughts clearly on Ohio State interests

While Trae Taylor has officially committed to Nebraska, Ohio State is not willing to give up that easily. The Buckeyes continue to pursue the elite 2027 quarterback, with Taylor remaining one of their top recruiting targets.

The coaching staff visited Taylor at his school back in May and established communication with the five-star quarterback. While Taylor did meet with them, he said he remains committed to Nebraska but won't say no to any coach who wants to meet him.

“At this point in the process, Ohio State stands where the other schools stand,” Taylor told ON3 back in May. “I’m committed to not taking any trips to campus. But I’m definitely not going to ignore any coach who calls me. The way football is now, I refuse to burn any bridges. But I’m a Cornhusker.”

Taylor is certain about where he wants to be, but several colleges haven't given up hope of landing him.

Now that he has earned the No. 1 quarterback ranking, the pursuit is only expected to intensify. That said, do you think Michigan will take another shot at him?
