Former Penn State Athlete Suffers Tragic Accident & Nearly Loses His Life

Kyle Vasey played long snapper at Penn State Nittany Lions from 2018 to 2019 and signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent after graduating. He never saw NFL action, and in recent years had been building a life in Denver as a real estate agent. On June 1, that life was upended completely.

His parents, Bruce and Shelly, described what happened in a GoFundMe created to help with Vasey's medical bills.

"A pickup truck negligently drove off the road and ran them down," they wrote. "The driver turned around to check out the damage he caused, then cowardly fled the scene."

Vasey and his fiancée, Corinne More, 35, were out for a neighborhood walk when a pickup truck drove off the road and struck them at roughly 45 mph. Corinne succumbed to her injuries while Vasey was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Vasey's condition has been described as critical. He has already undergone six surgeries. His left arm is the only limb that was not injured. He remains on a ventilator and sedated to help manage the pain.

A doctor noted in an affidavit that Vasey faces a substantial risk of permanent disfigurement or a life-threatening outcome. His family is holding on to the fact that there was no major head trauma.

"At this time, we are asking for your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery of his body, heart, and mind," Bruce and Shelly wrote. "Any donations to help with his ever-climbing medical bills would be greatly appreciated."

Besides Vasey and More, a third individual, 72-year-old Dianne Windes, was also involved in the collision. According to CBS Sports, she was walking in the opposite direction and was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The GoFundMe had raised over $40,000 as of now.

Vasey's recovery, whenever it comes, is expected to be long. His family and those who knew him at Penn State are rallying around him.

What Is Known About the Driver and the Charges He Faces

The driver, 28-year-old Adam Bauserman, was taken into custody after the incident. As reported by US Magazine, the driver had already been driving on a suspended license stemming from a previous D** when he struck all three pedestrians.

Deputies did not detect signs of intoxication at the scene.

Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly addressed the incident.

"This was a horrific scene," Weekly told CBS. "If we can prove that, we'll certainly do that, but at this point we have no indication of that."

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities still collecting evidence and pending Bauserman’s blood test results.

Share your thoughts and prayers for him and his family in the comments.
