Former quarterback and CBS analyst arrested for breaking the law

Tony Romo, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, was arrested in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, on July 23. He was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

"According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, Romo was stopped on the high-rise bridge while driving south on I-43," reported FOX 6 News, apparently the first to obtain the arrest detention report.

Romo was arrested at 6:15 p.m. CT and released at 11 p.m. per police reports.

"An arrest detention report said he was taken into custody after he performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests," reported Fox 6 News.

The quarterback-turned-analyst has worked for CBS Sports as their lead game analyst since 2017.

Romo has not commented and is set to appear in court on September 21. USA Today shared that Romo has to appear at 8:30 a.m.

There are no prior cases of Romo driving under the influence or operating while intoxicated.

A lifelong Cowboys quarterback, he made four Pro Bowl appearances in a career that spanned 12 years from 2004 to 2016. Romo, 46, was a multi-sport athlete and attended Burlington High School, 35 miles from Milwaukee.

Romo’s visit to Wisconsin took a sharp turn with the arrest, as his purpose for the visit did not fare well either.

Tony Romo was unsuccessful in a golf tournament before his arrest

During his high school years, Tony Romo became the school’s first athlete to earn All-State honors in three sports. He played football, basketball, and golf.

While he chose football over basketball for his pro career, golf seems to have his interest after all these years. Romo competed at the West Bend Country Club in a golf tournament that proved embarrassing.

“Romo posted rounds of 79, 78, 80 and 82 to finish tied for 73rd, 32 shots behind champion Spencer Turtz,” per a Golf Magic report. “His finish earned him just $60 and marked one of the poorest performances of his amateur golf career.”

At the 125th Wisconsin Amateur Championship, he went a “closing” 82 to finish 35-over par. However, a week ago at the American Century Championship, Romo finished sixth.

Romo’s visit to Milwaukee landed him in trouble with the authorities and on top of a poor golf tournament.
