4-star CB Calls Michigan Commitment a "No Brainer" After Ditching Oregon, Alabama

Michigan's 2027 recruiting class received a major boost earlier this month when four-star cornerback Blake Jenkins committed to the Wolverines.

He got options like Oregon, Alabama, SMU, and Vanderbilt, but he ultimately chose Michigan. According to a report by On3, Jenkins made it clear there was little debate once he experienced Ann Arbor firsthand.

"It really wasn’t close, to be honest," Jenkins said. "I’m going to be really honest with you. Mentally, I feel like I gotta go where’s best for me. Going to in-state schools, I’ll be most comfortable, but I feel like educationally, football schematic-wise, it’s a no-brainer to go to Michigan."

The highly rated defensive back revealed that Michigan's late push changed everything. Jenkins admitted he almost skipped his first visit before deciding to make the trip, as per the On3 report by Ethan McDowell

"You have to go visit Michigan," Jenkins said. "They offered me late, I wasn’t going to go on the visit, and I went on the visit, and it changed my life, for sure."

That feeling only grew stronger when Jenkins returned to campus for Michigan's Victors Weekend on June 19.

He also connected with the coaching staff, players, and the community during the program. He also described the move from Texas to Michigan as an important step for his future, both on and off the field.

"I loved the town," Jenkins said. "It was a great experience being out there with the people, the coaching staff. It’s great. It’s perfect."

Michigan cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford has played a major role in Jenkins' recruitment. The Wolverines made him a priority target and eventually landed one of the nation's top defensive backs.

Blake Jenkins is Already Recruiting Future Wolverines

Jenkins is also playing an active role in recruiting fellow prospects to Ann Arbor, as per the same On3 report.

One of his biggest targets is four-star cornerback Monsanna "Suki" Torbert, who spent time on campus during the same official visit.

"I’m locked in," Jenkins said. "I love Michigan. That’s the place to be."

Jenkins also mentioned prospects such as Joshua Dobson, Marcus Jones, and quarterback Thaddeus Thatcher as players he hopes will join the Wolverines' class.

The cornerback believes Michigan is building something special under head coach Kyle Whittingham and wants to help create one of the nation's best secondaries.

"I feel like this secondary is going to be very powerful," Jenkins said.

Jenkins plans to enroll early and remains fully committed to Michigan. Months after his first visit, he is now focused on strengthening the rest of the 2027 recruiting class.
