Four-Star CB commits to Texas Over Texas Tech

Texas just added another top defensive back to its 2027 class. On June 27, Cornerback Montre Jackson committed to the Texas Longhorns over their in-state rivals, the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

“It’s just the environment,” Jackson told Inside Texas in January. “And the times I’ve been here, everybody treats me like I’m family.”

The widely sought-after prospect is rated four-star by 247 Sports. On their composite ratings, he is ranked 223 nationally and 36th in Texas. Mark Orphey, assistant cornerback coach recruited him.

Jackson had offers from SMU, Ole Miss, Arizona State among others. The cornerback stands at 6’1 and weighs 185 pounds with noteworthy physicality. He is a multi-sport athlete who also runs track.

According to the Inside Texas report, in Spring 2025, Jackson posted a non-wind-legal 100m time of 10.39 seconds. Similarly, he recorded a wind-aided 200m time of 21.02 seconds. He won the area championship with a wind-legal of 21.15 seconds.

Ran a wind-aided 10.39 100 and a wind-legal time of 10.53 in the same time frame. He also logged a 20-4 long jump rep. Last season, he recorded nine pass breakups as a junior. Jackson, in his freshamn year was a Texas 6A regional qualifier in the 200m race.

What does Montre Jackson’s scouting report say about him?

In his assessment, Gabe Brooks called Montre Jackson as a “potential field corner candidate at the P4 level.” He is noted to posses an adequate frame with speed verification on track.

Brooks highlighted the growth in the cornerback’s play compared to his freshman year.

“Made noticeable strides in comfort level as a pure cover man from sophomore to junior season,” he wrote before adding, “Does not get tested often, which affects ball production. That said, ideally would see more impact plays in the takeaway category.”

Most importantly, Jackson has the needed physical and athletic tools with the desired coverage awareness needed. With that, he would become “a high-major starter with long-term potential beyond college.”

The Texas Longhorns have pried an important player from their rival’s hands. What are your thoughts on this commitment?
