4-star OT Commits To Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers For 2027

Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers are walking into the 2026 season after winning the program's first National Championship. However, when it comes to the 2027 recruiting class, they are at No.34. The sixth commitment has arrived for Indiana University, with the program landing a highly valuable addition on the offensive line.

"BREAKING 4-star OT Mason McDermott has committed to Indiana,@SWiltfong_reports," reported Rivals on May 16.

Mason McDermott, a four-star prospect, made his decision known while he was, reportedly, on a visit to Bloomington, Indiana. According to 247 Sports, McDermott was the fifth-best prospect in Indiana and the 27th-best offensive tackle in his class.

“HOME. After an incredible OV and conversations with my family, I’m excited to announce my commitment to @IndianaFootball,” the offensive tackle wrote in an X post.

He played at Noblesville High School, and stands at 6-foot-7 and weighs 290 lbs. While he will play for Cignetti, McDermott had received offers from Iowa, Florida State, Cincinnati, and UCLA, among others.

He reportedly even took an unofficial visit to Mizzou but ended up choosing the 2025 champions for a set reason.

“The program isn’t rebuilding anymore, it’s reloading,” McDermott told On3 earlier this spring. “They’ve got a strong fanbase, talented players, and complete buy-in across the board, everything you need to build a championship-level program for many years to come. Who wouldn’t want to play for that kind of program?”

Indiana's 2027 class went from No. 52 to No. 44 in 247Sports' team rankings.

The Hoosiers had an incredible run in the 2025 season. The program reigned as the undisputed champions and won over Miami with a 16-0 record. Head coach Cignetti, whose career record stands at 146-37, will be coaching the Hoosiers for his third season.

Walking into 2026, they still have some targets for the 2027 recruiting class.

Along with McDermott, Indiana landed the commitment from Quince Orchard (Md.) cornerback Rico Jackson. The Hoosiers still have some unfinished business in the recruiting trail.

They have offered William Amos Hough safety, Davion Jones. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Jones stands as the No. 10 safety and No. 153 overall player in the 2027 class while ranking seventh overall in North Carolina. He took his first official visit to Bloomington on May 15.

The next in line is Lawrence North's wide receiver, and an in-state wide receiver product, Monshun Sales. Apart from Indiana, he holds offers from other Big Ten power programs like the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State, among others.

According to On3's prediction, Cignetti's Hoosiers hold an 81.7% chance to land him.

With six commitments under his belt, spectators await which name will join next. What are your thoughts?
