Fox analyst Colin Cowherd shares retirement plans after working for 20+ years

Colin Cowherd has been a formidable voice in the NFL media field for decades. However, sat down for an interview and lifted the curtain to reveal his thoughts on retirement and life after it.

Outkick's Bobby Burack asked Cowherd about the longevity of a career in his field and why calling it quits can be so difficult for some.

“Yes. I would say, and this again is my personality. I am bored by yesterday and fascinated by tomorrow,” he said in the June 18 exclusive interview. “That's just how I operate. I'm just fascinated by change. I did not grow up traditionally. I'm a divorced kid. Moved around a lot.”

Cowherd, who has two years left on his contract, shared that he welcomes change and disruption. He talked about his real estate business, co-owned with his wife, Ann Cowherd, which keeps them on the move in search of new properties.

The FOX associate shared that he and his wife, have non-traditional values and a love for change.

“We just like to disrupt, and it's I I really have no problem with people that are rear-view-mirror first. I really I’m not. I think it's one of the reasons I love the NFL,” the founder of The Volume podcast said.

When asked about when he would retire, Cowherd said he hasn’t put his finger on an exact time.

“I don't think it's in the near term, but I would say it's probably somewhere, you know, that when I see that seven getting close as the first number. We're probably around the corner,” he told Bursack.

The 62-year-old also said he read about people who have aged quickly because they “don't wake up with a mission or a purpose.”

Cowherd has dedicated his life to the NFL and broadcasting. His career spans over three decades; the analyst has come a long way.

Colin Cowherd’s Hall of Fame worthy career

Cowherd’s broadcasting career began with a local sports TV anchor gig. He then moved to radio in 2001. He was the voice of a three-hour daily radio program on KFXX 910-AM in Portland, Oregon, as mentioned by the Radio Hall of Fame.

Cowherd gained national attention in 2003 when his show The Herd with Colin Cowherd debuted on ESPN. The show’s format of “opinion, analysis, and storytelling” made it one of ESPN’s most popular segments.

He left the broadcasting network in 2015. Cowherd joined iHeartMedia and FOX Sports, and they relaunched The Herd on FS1 and FOX Sports Radio, distributed by Premiere Networks. Ten years later, he was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.

“Cowherd is known for his deep knowledge of sports psychology, economics, and team dynamics, often using those areas to create compelling conversations,” his RHOF profile read.

He has assured that his distinctive voice will be on air for a while. What are your thoughts on this?
