Georgia’s Safety Arrested on Multiple Charges As UGA Makes Statement
The Georgia Bulldogs program is dealing with an off-field situation involving safety Ja'Marley Riddle, who was apprehended by the authorities in Glynn County last week. Following the incident, the University of Georgia released a statement.
"We are aware of the charges and are actively gathering additional information," the statement read. "As this is an ongoing legal matter, we will not be providing further comment at this time."
The charges against him were two felony d*** possession charges and a misdemeanor charge of speeding.
According to an ESPN report, Ja'Marley Riddle was allegedly driving at a “high rate of speed” on Interstate 95 when an undercover detective spotted a red Dodge Durango weaving through traffic.
The report further stated that the detective’s vehicle was already traveling close to 95 mph, yet the Durango was still pulling away.
ESPN also noted that officers reported that Ja'Marley Riddle appeared “extremely nervous” and was visibly shaking during the traffic stop. Authorities also stated that a suspicious odor was detected coming from inside the vehicle after he handed over his license and registration.
The news about the player initially became public days later through multiple reports, such as ESPN, around May 13-14.
The former East Carolina transfer, who recently joined Georgia, reportedly posted bond the same day and was released shortly after booking.
This news comes after the prospect posted promising numbers in his freshman and sophomore years in the last two years.
Ja’Marley Riddle's College Record
Riddle joined the Bulldogs this offseason after a two-year stint with East Carolina. The Kingsland, Georgia, resident had a strong performance with the East Carolina Pirates.
The 19-year-old-old has a career of 134 tackles with 65 solo. In his two years, he has also posted 7.5 tackles for loss and logged three interceptions each year.
The youngster played 13 games in each of his two years, with an impressive interception touchdown posted in 2024.
Highly touted for his defensive acumen, he had a stellar season in 2025. He earned first-team All-AAC honors. He was later limited by a leg injury during spring practice.
The situation now leaves fresh questions surrounding one of Georgia’s promising defensive additions heading into the season. After building strong momentum at East Carolina, Ja'Marley Riddle suddenly finds his football future uncertain off the field.
