Holly Rowe, Joel Klatt Replace Kirk Herbstreit In Long-Held College Football Role

After two editions anchoring the booth, Kirk Herbstreit is out. EA Sports is bringing in fresh voices for on College Football 27.

“We are excited to welcome ESPN’s very own Holly Rowe as the sideline reporter in College Football 27,” the video games series announced on June 4.

The reason for Herbstreit's exit is unknown. Rowe will bring a sideline perspective that the booth cannot, does not capture naturally. She is responsible for reporting on injuries, weather, player performance, and game flow.

They also detailed what role and where Klatt would play this time around in the game.

“We are bringing in Colorado Buffaloes alum Joel Klatt from Fox Sports into the booth for College Football 27. Joel joins Chris Fowler in the booth to enhance the Playoff atmosphere like never before! We are loving the energy and stories they have brought to the game!”

As Klatt is confirmed to join Fowler, a veteran analyst, Pete Nakos of On3, on June 2, reported that Herbstreit will not be appearing in the newest edition.

He previously appeared with Fowler for the “Big Game” broadcast team in the game’s first two editions. This edition is set for a mid-July release.

Keeping Herbstreit’s replacement aside, the main broadcast team still consists of Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer and David Pollack. College Footbal 27 has worked on commentary work significantly to nail one idea well.

“A lot of commentary work this year came down to one idea: the booth should feel more aware of what kind of game you are in,” they shared in their deep dive.

This awareness is set to reflect in context aware commentary, seasonal performance awareness, refreshed team specific, banter Storylines, follow-up references later in the game, tighter alignment between visuals and commentary and stronger player and team storylines.

Earlier this week, the series unveiled it cover for the standard and the deluxe edition.

Cover Athletes Unveiled: Moore, Lacy, Toney Lead Standard Edition

The video game series revealed this cover on June 02. This year’s cover has Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy, and Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney.

“It’s a blessing,” Moore told On3. “Many times, as a kid, you played multiple games that have cover athletes. As a kid, you dream about being on there one day. And when they gave me the phone call and talked to my team about it, I was excited. I had a great time. I’m excited for the drop.”

On3’s Pete Nakos had reported that the game has a deluxe edition featuring two players and a head coach.

USC quarterback Jayden Maiava, Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore and Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti are on the deluxe edition of the cover.

“It’s an unbelievable opportunity, just for my family and my friends, and everybody who plays the game to connect with them,” Maiava said according to the June 2 report.

Fans can expect a return of Mascot Mashup, a revamped Dynasty Mode, and announcer presentation with the addition of dynamic weather.
