How Much Money Does Brendan Sorsby Make? Updated 2026 NIL Earnings, Net Worth for Texas Tech QB

Brendan Sorsby is one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in college football right now. Not just because of what he does on the field. Because of what he signed before he ever took a snap for Texas Tech.

Sorsby's NIL deal with Texas Tech is worth close to $6 million, making it the largest NIL contract in college football history, his agent Ron Slavin of Lift Sports Management told Boardroom.

The deal is fully guaranteed and must be paid in full by January 1, 2027.

"He wants to become a better quarterback, and he wants to be the first pick in the '27 draft," Slavin told Boardroom. "Brendan wanted to play college football, compete for a national championship, and continue to develop."

Texas Tech's Brendan Sorsby goes through warmups before the spring football game, Friday, April 17, 2026, at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Slavin explained why Sorsby chose college over the NFL despite receiving a draft projection between the first and third rounds.

"We did pros and cons with all of them, and it was pretty much a coin flip," Slavin said. "In the end, Brendan just went with his gut."

Sorsby's camp looked at three schools. LSU, Miami, and Texas Tech all made strong offers. The money between the three was essentially equal, Slavin said.

In the end, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire won him over. The facilities impressed Sorsby; the offensive line was a selling point, and being able to play his final college season in his home state of Texas mattered.

The fully guaranteed structure was non-negotiable. Sorsby's camp built that requirement specifically to protect against collectives delaying or withholding payments, a growing issue in college football, per Boardroom.

Lift Sports Management CEO Donnie McGrath described what the deal means beyond Sorsby himself.

"This deal is a huge step for the agency and also for Brendan individually," McGrath told Boardroom. "It helps put Lift Football on the map, and it shows that these guys are going to make an impact on the industry."

Before all of this, Sorsby was the top-ranked player in ESPN's 2026 transfer portal rankings. He threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns at Cincinnati in 2025 with just five interceptions, per On3.

Brendan Sorsby's Path to Texas Tech Was Not Straightforward

After Cincinnati's regular season ended, Sorsby asked his representatives to explore both the transfer portal and the NFL. He submitted a request to the NFL's College Advisory Committee, which gave him a projected draft range of the first to third rounds.

That projection was not enough to pull him away from college. He referenced quarterbacks like Bo Nix, who played 60 college games before being drafted. That model made more sense to him than leaving early.

"The NFL doesn't draft quarterbacks in the first round anymore and let him sit for three years like Aaron Rodgers was able to," Slavin said. "That's the model now, not guys who have had one good season of 12 starts."

It becomes hard to ignore how differently things play out when million-dollar contracts and top-tier legal teams get involved.
