Indiana’s Memorial Stadium makes an interesting move following a sold-out season
The Indiana Hoosiers won a national championship in January, and the fan response since then has been unlike anything the program has ever seen. Memorial Stadium is about to look very different this fall.
The university has already sold 11,000 student tickets to returning students alone. Now Indiana plans to sell between 4,000 and 5,000 more tickets to new students, expanding the dedicated student section to as many as 16,000 seats, according to IndyStar.
"Ticket sales are at historic levels, and we will have a packed house for the entire season," IU associate athletic director Jeremy Gray told IndyStar as reported on June 24. "Curt Cignetti, the staff, and our phenomenal athletes have built unprecedented excitement due to their incredible success on the field."

A student section of 16,000 seats would make up close to 30 percent of the single-bowl stadium, per IndyStar. That puts Indiana alongside Alabama and Georgia. Alabama runs a student section of around 17,000. Georgia runs around 16,000. Both of those programs play in significantly bigger stadiums than Memorial Stadium.
Indiana also has registered a 93 percent season-ticket renewal rate, more than 9,000 new season-ticket sales across roughly 3,000 new accounts, and over 30,000 total public season tickets sold.
The department also expects to sell out all eight home games this fall after Indiana wrote history by winning its first national championship in the program's history.
"Robust ticket sales reflect that we not only have a great football program," Gray told IndyStar, "But for the first time, a bona fide football culture at IU."
Despite a football history dating back to 1899, Indiana had never secured a national title. While under Cignetti, they built around sustained success, hopes remain high for another successful season.
Indiana’s 2026 home schedule gives fans plenty of reasons to show up
The sellout prediction is backed by what is actually on the schedule. Indiana opens Big Ten play at home against Northwestern on September 25, according to Indiana's official website.
Ohio State visits Bloomington on October 17 for a rematch of last year's Big Ten championship game. That one alone would have sold out Memorial Stadium in some time.
USC comes to town on November 14. The regular season closes on November 28 with Purdue visiting for the Old Oaken Bucket game.
Four massive home games in one season. For a fanbase that just watched their team go 16-0 and win a national title, that schedule is exactly the fuel Cignetti needs to keep the momentum building into year three.
