North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick's family is back in the headlines, and this time it has nothing to do with football. A North Carolina judge issued an arrest order for his daughter-in-law, Jen Belichick, on Monday, July 13.

The situation started on May 21 when the North Carolina State Highway Patrol pulled Jen over on Interstate 140 in Brunswick County. She was cited for misdemeanor speeding after being clocked at 88 mph in a 70 mph zone.

“I hired an attorney!!!!!” Jen wrote on social media, per WRAL.

That post confirmed she is taking the legal route to resolve the issue. The arrest order does not mean she has been taken into custody. As of Tuesday, July 14, morning, the order had not been served. She can file a motion to recall the order, hire an attorney, or turn herself in.

Jen was ordered to appear before a Brunswick County judge on July 10 because of the speed involved. She did not show up, and the judge issued the arrest order on Monday.

In North Carolina, driving more than 15 mph over the speed limit or exceeding 80 mph turns a standard ticket into a Class 3 misdemeanor that requires a court appearance.

That is why Jen was ordered to appear before a Brunswick County judge on July 10 rather than simply paying a fine online.

Jen is married to Steve Belichick, who serves as the defensive coordinator at North Carolina under his father, Bill. The two have been married for close to a decade and have children together.

Bill Belichick won six Super Bowls with New England. Now he is in his second year at North Carolina after going 4-8 in his debut season in 2025. The Tar Heels kick off the 2026 season in August with Steve still running the defense as coordinator.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Jen has ended up in the national spotlight.

Jen had already made headlines over a confrontation with Jordon Hudson

Back in November 2025, she made news after reportedly confronting Bill Belichick's girlfriend Jordon Hudson following a UNC win over Stanford, per the Irish Star.

Jen was reportedly upset with Hudson for something earlier that day. After the game, she reportedly walked into Bill's office and went on a lengthy rant directed at Hudson.

The CBS Sunday Morning interview in May 2025, where Hudson was heard saying "we're not talking about this" when a reporter asked how she and Bill met, first put the relationship under scrutiny. Jen had weighed in publicly on social media at the time as well.
