LSU's Lane Kiffin and North Carolina's Bill Belichick are officially battling to land four-star offensive tackle Kal-El Johnson, the towering 6' 6", 305-lbs blocker from Archbishop Moeller High School.

He is finishing a busy schedule. The star lineman has spent the last few weeks exploring his options across the country. The competition remains tight.

"I've visited a lot of schools over the past two months, including Indiana, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and Texas, just to name a few," Johnson added in the same interview.

Rivals ranks the 6' 6" powerhouse as the nation’s No. 207 overall prospect, the No. 17 OT, and the No. 11 player in Ohio for 2027 as per Pack Pride. His elite blocking helped Moeller’s 2025 offense average 352.9 total yards per game, as per letsgobigmoe.com.

Bill Belichick’s Personal Touch Wins Over Kal-El Johnson

Bill Belichick is using a highly personal approach to counter the heavy allure of the SEC.

“It’s just really how well I connected with the coaches. I really hit it off well. Other schools tried to get me to commit on my visit," Kal-El Johnson highlighted his massive takeaway, as per Don Callahan of Inside Carolina. "[UNC’s coaches] didn’t try to make me commit at all. It seemed genuine."

The Tar Heels are firmly sitting at the top-of-the-top tier of schools for Johnson.

UNC made Johnson an unmatched priority by organizing multiple separate one-on-one meetings with Belichick. Johnson felt completely valued by the coaching staff. The Tar Heels also showed their commitment to Kal-El via their research on him.

“Bill Belichick spoke a lot of great things about me, about my film,” Johnson added to Inside Carolina regarding his recruitment.

This high-stakes recruiting race officially includes Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Indiana as well. However, the premier storyline centers on Lane Kiffin and Bill Belichick locking horns for a premier trench player.
