Lane Kiffin, Ed Orgeron Working Hard To Flip Nation's No. 2 WR
Easton Royal has officially put the Texas Longhorns on notice. Following a recent visit to Baton Rouge, Easton Royal, the nation’s No. 2 wide receiver, admitted LSU's growth in his recruitment, placing the Tigers in a prime position to flip the elite prospect.
“They made a very big, significant jump,” Royal told Rivals after the visit. “They’re in a very good spot. They’re very close to Texas now after this weekend.”
Royal committed to the Texas Longhorns at the end of his junior year at Brother Martin. Rivals’ Industry Rankings has declared him as the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 10 overall in the 2027 prospect class.
LSU Tigers' new head coach Lane Kiffin and the recently hired Ed Orgeron are both working to pull Royal away from his Texas commitment.
In 2025, his junior year, Royal earned 5A Offensive MVP and first-team all-state selection by the Louisiana Football Coaches Association. He gained 2,095 all-purpose yards and threw 29 touchdowns in total.
As a sophomore, Royal recorded 1,149 all-purpose yards and 14 touchdowns. The quality that stands out most, however, is Royal’s athleticism. He is a multi-sport athlete who excelled in track and field too.
He ran a 100-meter dash in 10.26 seconds and a 200 meter dash 21.38 seconds in his junior season. In his sophomore year, Royal became a Louisiana 5A silver medalist in the 100 meters with a time of 10.40 seconds. He also posted 10.30 and 10.38 reps prior to state to set the Brother Martin school record.
Royal toppled his junior year record by completing the 200 in 21.32 seconds in Spring 2025.
LSU is leaving no stone unturned to pitch itself to Easton, who revealed who else wants to see him in purple and gold.
Easton Royal Shares Snippets Of His Meeting With Ed Oregron's Meeting
Over the weekend, LSU welcomed some of the 2027 class prospects, and Easton Royal was one of them. Royal is scheduled to visit Florida and Texas in June after taking a trip to Ole Miss last month.
At LSU, Royal met and spent time with Ed Orgeron, a veteran special assistant to recruiting and defense. Royal shared a photo of himself with Orgeron and revealed what his meeting was about.
“They continue to show me everything I need is here. I can go be great anywhere else, but why not do the same thing at home. They’re showing me the whole state is behind me,” he continued. “It’s some of the top lawyers in the state, the governor. They’re all behind me. Every fan is dying to see Easton Royal flip to LSU.”
LSU certainly wouldn’t want to lose the No.1 WR in the state to their SEC rival. Whether he remains committed to the Longhorns or flips in favor of the Tigers remains unknown. All eyes are on how the five-star prospect fares in the long run.
