Lane Kiffin working hard to steal nation’s No. 1 WR from Texas

Easton Royal is the top-ranked wide receiver in the 2027 class, and he has already committed to the Texas Longhorns. That has not slowed LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin down one bit.

Royal himself made clear why LSU is a real pull for him, even with a commitment already in place.

"The thing that fires me up is LSU is always knowing they produce good wide receivers, so it's a blessing to be wanted to be a part of that legacy," Royal told Rivals.

According to On3 analyst Sam Spiegelman's report, Royal is a flip target for LSU.

"From speaking to sources informed on Royal’s recruitment, Florida is trending down," reported the analyst. "The Tigers are giving Texas the most run for the elite pass-catcher. This decision is on pace to stretch into July."

Royal is a five-star prospect out of Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Texas landed his verbal pledge last November, but LSU has been pushing hard to flip him ever since Kiffin took over as head coach.

Kiffin personally traveled to New Orleans in January to visit Royal at his high school, per SI's Zack Nagy. Royal also had a specific answer for what makes LSU a potential fit on the field.

"The thing that makes them a potential fit is the way they love to take 1-on-1 with their receivers," Royal added in the same interview with Rivals.

That detail matters as it comes from the No.1 wide receiver and No.6 recruit in the country. A decision is not coming anytime soon. Royal is expected to take his time and stretch things into July.

He is 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds. In his sophomore season at Brother Martin in 2024, he put up over 1,100 all-purpose yards and scored in double digits.

According to reports from SI analyst James Parks, LSU is believed to be assembling an NIL package in hopes of convincing Louisiana native Royal to back away from his pledge to Texas.

Besides the NIL, there is another area LSU is serious about.

LSU is building a 2027 class designed to support Royal

LSU is not just going after Royal. Kiffin is putting pieces around him to make the offer impossible to turn down.

The Tigers already have the No. 2-ranked quarterback in Louisiana locked in. Peyton Houston was their first pledge in the 2027 class. The plan is clear: build an offense around elite Louisiana talent and make staying home the easy call.

LSU also hosted five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson for an official visit this past weekend, per Rivals, after landing his commitment on May 3. The Tigers have a strong prediction to land Hudson despite the Nebraska Cornhuskers pushing hard.

Kiffin's 2027 class is being built with purpose. If Royal flips, it becomes one of the most talked-about classes in the country overnight.

Do you think Royal will flip from Texas to LSU before signing day? Let us know in the comments.
