"Looking Elite": Potential Big News Awaits Michigan RB Jordan Marshall

Michigan running back Jordan Marshall is already turning heads this offseason. A recruiting analyst described him as 'looking elite' at a recent practice. This praise comes with even bigger news: a potential captaincy for the third-year player.

“The O-line (offensive line) looks pretty d*** good, to be honest, but that’s nothing new for Michigan football,” Gammell said. “Jordan Marshall is, I don’t know if it’s official or not, but I think he’s going to be captain. I think he’s going to be the guy, but he’s looking elite, to be honest. His offseason was obviously been pretty d*** good.”

In 2026, the Cincinnati, Ohio, native will enter his third season for the maize and blue. In the 2024 season, Marshall had 31 carries for 120 yards and ‌no touchdowns. Things went up a notch in the 2025 CFB season. Marshall had 150 carries for 932 yards and 10 touchdowns to his name.

The four-star Ohio native is making an impact for the Michigan Wolverines. While committing, Marshall was ranked 12th among running backs nationally and 6th overall in Ohio.

In the 2025 CFB season, Jordan Marshall earned Second-team All-Big Ten honors after having a brilliant 2025 season.

If what Gammell said holds true, Marshall will be one of the captains of the Michigan Football team and will look to do better than he did in 2025 this time under new head coach Kyle Whittingham.

What Did Jordan Marshall Say About the New Coaching Staff?

Marshall, like many of the other players on the roster, will play under Kyle Whittingham and his coaching staff.

“Being on time - you need to be 10 minutes early to everything,” Marshall said. “That’s something I really like.”

Under Kyle Whittingham, discipline is the theme for all the players. The coaching staff also places equal importance on academics and being a football player.

“If you’re not at class, you’re not practicing,” Marshall said. “You come to Michigan to be both If I (the staff) can trust you to do things you don’t want to do, like going to class, then I can trust you in the fourth quarter with a minute left.”

The standards that are being set by the new coaching staff will translate to the football field as per the running back.
