Loved It: Michigan Football Surges to Land 2027 Edge Amid SEC Push
Since the Detroit Lions drafted edge pass rusher Derrick Moore, Kyle Whittingham and the Michigan Wolverines' staff are already looking to strengthen the pass-rush unit by adding this three-star prospect in 2027.
Hailing from Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Folk, Utah, edge rusher Uhila Wolfgramm is on Whittingham's radar for 2027. During his visit to the Wolverines' facility in April, Wolfgramm discussed the coaches' ties with Utah.
“It was great, loved it,” Wolfgramm told Maize n Brew. “Coach Powell is like an uncle to me, so it was a great time. I knew the coaches from here in Utah when they recruited me at Utah and BYU, so it felt like home. Great academics and community.”
Kyle Whittingham spent 32 years with the Utah Utes, serving the organization in various coaching positions. Lewis Powell, the defensive ends coach, has also worked with coach Whittingham in Utah, before taking up a coaching job with him at Ann Arbor.
Uhila Wolfgramm played in the Adidas Polynesian Bowl in 2026. Due to his performance, he is heavily recruited by SEC teams like the Oklahoma Sooners and the UCLA Bruins.
However, there is no official decision from Wolfgramm on where he will play collegiate football in the fall of 2027.
“Michigan is currently one of my top teams,” Wolfgramm said. “I’ll be returning for an official visit, but need to find the date that will work best, but will take an OV (official visit) for sure.”
Wolfgramm has scheduled three official visits at three different schools: UCLA (May 15), Oklahoma (June 12), and BYU (June 19). In 2024, the edge pass rusher had 38 total tackles, out of which 14 resulted in a loss, 11 sacks, and four forced fumbles.
Wolfgramm will make only five official visits before making a decision. Even though there is no official date to revisit Whittingham and Powell at Ann Arbor, they remain one of the top five colleges shortlisted by the prospect.
Wolfgramm's Thoughts on Coach Whittingham
The Michigan Wolverines named Kyle Whittingham as head coach in 2026, after they fired Sherrone Moore for incidents not related to the gridiron.
Having played football at Brigham Young University, Whittingham coached the Utes for more than three decades before making the switch.
During his 20-year tenure, he won the Mountain West Conference (MWC) Coach of the Year award in 2008, and Pac-12 Conference Coach of the Year award twice in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
“It’s great, even talking with the players and how much it’s changed for the better at Michigan, you can feel it,” Wolfgramm said. “He’s had a great career at Utah and will take that to Michigan.”
The connection from Utah could seal the deal for Whittingham and Wolfgramm. Another highly-touted prospect from Utah is the four-star quarterback, Kamden Lopati, who flipped his commitment from Illinois to the Wolverines in 2026.
