Michigan adds new staffer who previously worked with Kansas City Chiefs
The Michigan Wolverines front office under Kyle Whittingham is expected to have a new addition. The program is set to hire Jax Egan, whose experience spans college football and the NFL.
“Michigan is expected to hire Eastern Kentucky director of player personnel and recruiting Jax Egan as an assistant director of personnel, sources tell @CBSSports,” CBS Sports Matt Zenite reported. “Before spending the last two seasons at Eastern Kentucky, he worked at Kansas.”
This plausible development could work out as Whittingham oversaw some significant changes over at Michigan. The program parted ways with former director of player personnel Albert Karschnia. Former Michigan wide receiver and now position coach, Ron Bellamy, took over his post this spring.

If Egan joins the Wolverines front office, the program would benefit immensely from his internship with the Kansas City Chiefs. In summer 2021, Egan was an intern at Chiefs’ training camp and organized daily training camp operations.
The Chiefs lost the Super Bowl 31-9 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that season. That was Buccaneers’ quarterback Tom Brady’s last NFL season, and he took home the game MVP award.
That year beginning in August , he served as the full-time scouting and recruiting intern for Kansas Jayhawks football. He also served as the Kansas’ point of contact for documents related to transfe portal and kept prospects’ information.
Egan was responsible for coordinating every game day, unofficial, and official visit from the barrage of prospects in all the seasons he was with the Jayhawks.
“With the Jayhawks, Egan directly assisted offensive coordinators Andy Kotelnicki and Jeff Grimes with prospect evaluation, organizing recruiting trips, and day-to-day recruiting operations,” his profile on the Eastern Kentucky website read.
He then arrived at Richmond as the Eastern Kentucky Colonels’ Director of Player Personnel & Recruiting in 2024.
Who are the other names in the Michigan Wolverines’ front office?
If Jax Egan joins the Michigan Wolverines he would be working alongside director of recruiting Skylar Phan and director of operations Natalia Benitez-Hilton. Both are new faces in Ann Arbor
Phan was hired after Kyle Whittingham’s arrival. She is the director of recruiting at Michigan Football was instrumental in the USC Trojans landing the nation’s No. 1 class this cycle, per On3.
Benitez-Hilton is the director of football operations, who already has four years’ worth of experience with Whittingham’s Utah Utes.
“Whittingham has leaned on building a staff of people he knows, mixed with some retainees from the previous regime, along with new faces, to bring a different flavor to the program,” Anthony Broome on On3 wrote in April.
Dave Peloquin, a longtime Notre Dame staffer and former Athletes First GM, is the new general manager. Michigan football is rebuilding from within after last year’s record and controversies. What do you think of these hires?
