Michigan defense slapped with damning reality check against Big Ten quarterback

Throughout the 2026 season, Michigan’s defense will face immense competition. However, one particular quarterback appears to stand above the rest.

The Wolverines will have to face many talented signal-callers, such as Josh Hoover of Indiana and Julian Sayin of Ohio State, along their schedule. However, according to Trent Knoop of Sports Illustrated, their toughest matchup will be against Dante Moore of Oregon.

“The former UCLA quarterback threw for over 3,500 yards last season with 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions,” wrote Knoop. “Oregon has the playmakers for Moore, and unfortunately for Michigan, the Wolverines have to travel to Eugene to see Moore in 2026.”

With Moore being one of the top prospects of the 2027 NFL Draft class and Oregon being one of the top teams, it is certainly going to be a hard matchup, according to Sports Illustrated's Trent Knoop.

“Moore has a real chance to become the first pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, and Oregon is one of the preseason favorites to win the national title,” wrote Knoop. “The Ducks are going as far as Moore takes them.”

With a tough schedule through the season, the Wolverines' defense has their hands-full.

If Michigan’s pass rush fails to consistently pressure Moore, his ability to stretch defenses vertically would create huge problems for the Wolverines. On top of that, Michigan will have to travel to Autzen Stadium, one of the loudest stadiums per capita in college football, making it one of the toughest away fixtures for the season.

The last time that Michigan faced Oregon, it was a massive defeat for the Wolverines after they lost 38-17 at Ann Arbor in 2024. With a historical record of 3-3 between the two teams, the Wolverines will be hoping to get revenge for their last match against each other.

Meanwhile, Moore has been named as one of the top favorites to win the Heisman Trophy.

Analyst names Dante Moore as top contender for Heisman Trophy

College football analyst Phil Steele revealed his 2026 favorites in his digital magazine. In the list, which included nine quarterbacks and just one wide receiver, Moore was named as the second favorite to win it, per Daniel Hager of ON3.

Ranking only behind Texas quarterback Arch Manning, Moore is coming off a spectacular year with the Oregon Ducks.

In his first season as Oregon's starting quarterback, Moore led the Ducks to a 13-2 record, while completing 3,565 yards on 71.8% accuracy. He scored 30 touchdowns while throwing only 10 interceptions.

With one of the most experienced offensive lines anchored by left tackle Iapani Laloulu, Moore also has amazing playmakers at his disposal in the wide receiver room.

With a receiver room boasting the likes of Evan Stewart, Dakorien Moore, and Jeremiah McClellan, if Moore can efficiently distribute the football, Oregon could see its first Heisman Trophy winner since Marcus Mariota in 2014.

With one of the best offensive lineups in college football, it is hard to argue against Moore's chances of winning the honor over anybody else.

Where would you rank Moore among the favorites for the Heisman Trophy, and do you think he can win the honor? Let us know in the comments!
