Michigan Faces Aggressive SEC Threat To Recruit Nation's No.3 Cornerback

Joshua Dobson is high up on the Michigan Wolcerines’ list, but is the program forst on Dobson’s list of colleges?  Michigan appeals to No.3 cornerback on the national level on many fronts, but Kyle Whittingham cannot rest knowing two SEC programs are trailing them.

“Texas A&M continues to set the pace in his recruitment according to Rivals’ Chad Simmons. South Carolina also looms as a real contender,” On3’s Ethan McDowell wrote on 18 June.

For his June 12 visit to Ann Arbor, the Wolverines palnned a full-court press for the five-star prospect. Dobson has visited them once before with his grandmother. This time, he was accompanied by his parents, Rennard and Stacie Dobson, who raved about their efforts.

“Everything was more than you can imagine, I’ll put it that way,” Rennard said. “We had a beautiful time. You always hear about The Big House, but to actually get there and see it, it was just wonderful.”

Stacie, an educator herself, emphasised on the importance of a good education for her son. According to Rennard, she is pleased that Michigan ticks all the boxes for her Joshua’s future.

“The education piece is a big piece too,” Rennard said. “There’s nothing else they’re lacking as far as what Josh wants to do as far as business. They checked all the boxes, so she was in awe. She was ecstatic about the atmosphere, the culture. It just felt like a place that, if he chose to be there, he’ll fit in right fine.”

This some good news for the Wolverines are fighting for DObson against 30 other offers. According to 247 Sports, the Wolverines are second behind the Aiggies, both listed as ‘warmer’ on his offer list

Wolverines’ CB coach Jernaro Gilford is recruiting him and the program has three commitments so far. Landing Dobson would secure the Wolverines’ CB room beyond measure, giving their opponents a tough time on the field.

What Does Joshua Dobson Offer The Michigan Wolverines?

Rennard Dobson, Joshua’s father, said that Michigan will be “at the top,” among his son’s many recruiters. As the the Michigan Wolverines fight for the coveted cornerback, how good is the cornerback?

In his prospect analysis, Andrew Ivins described Dobson to have “speedy zone corner with a wiry frame that can race into the deeper third.”

The 6’1 is an All-American and multi-sports athlete. In his breakout freshman year, Dobson recorded 24 tackles, 6 pass breakups, and 3 interceptions. He nearly doubled his stats in the following sophomore season with 48 tackles, 10 PBUs, and 3 INTs.

According to MaxPreps, Dobson recorded 4 tackles and 1 PBU in 8 games in his junior year at Fort Mill, Catawba Ridge. He added 3 catches for 135 yards and 2 TDs on offense. Dobson participated in the Under Armour All-America Game after transferring to Cornelius Houg as an underclassman.

He is a two-state qualifier in the 400-meter dash. His two marks include 10.85 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 22.21 seconds in the 200 meters. He ran the 400-meter dash in 48.86 seconds.

It appears that Dobson is inclined to wear maize and blue, but nothing is cemented yet. Will he commit to the Wolverines? What are your thoughts?
