Michigan Fans Divided After Legend's Son Commits To Wolverines

The Woodson name already holds legendary status in Michigan football history thanks to Charles Woodson. Now, that surname could soon return to Ann Arbor once again with his son. Though poetic on paper, fans remain divided over the decision.

On May 15, the NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news, confirming a commitment to the University of Michigan. Charles Woodson Jr., the four-star prospect, had taken the first step in his father's legacy.

"Like father like son: Charles Woodson Jr. has committed to the University of Michigan," Schefter posted on X. "He’s a four-star defensive back from Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona who is the son of former Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson."

Before ultimately committing to Michigan Wolverines football, Woodson Jr. had also drawn attention from programs like Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia Tech, and Florida State before bringing the famous surname back to Ann Arbor.

The Lake Nona High School standout currently measures in at 5-foot-10.5 and 173 pounds while playing safety.

Rated as an 88-overall prospect by 247Sports, Woodson Jr. posted 73 tackles, eight pass breakups, and two interceptions during his junior season.

It is still early in Charles Woodson Jr.’s journey, but carrying the Woodson surname naturally brings major expectations.

With his father's cabinet featuring the 1997 Heisman Trophy, a Super Bowl XLV title, and the 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, fans already know the pressure and comparisons surrounding the Michigan commit will only grow stronger over the next few years.

Fans React to Woodson Jr.'s Commitment to Michigan

As Schefter posted the news, fans gave their takes on what the future could look like.

One fan specifically addressed the pressure that comes with the name.

"Can Charles Woodson Jr. handle the pressure of his father’s legacy at Michigan?" the comment read.

Another fan spoke about how it all felt like a game, with a lot of the paths aligning for both father and son.

"nepo baby speedrun: football edition 😭," the user commented. "Dad was a Heisman winner, now junior pulling up to Michigan like it’s legacy DLC unlocked."

Meanwhile, some fans were simply excited for what this meant for the program.

"The Woodson name back in Ann Arbor. Charles Woodson Jr. to Michigan feels right. Go Blue! 〽️," a user said.

Some fans also addressed the pressure, but chose to keep it simple, highlighting the reality of things.

"Big shoes to fill," the comment simply said.

Some were optimistic for Woodson Jr.'s future, envisioning similar achievements.

"he’s gonna win a super bowl with the packers just like his daddy too," another comment read.

For now, Charles Woodson Jr.’s commitment is more about potential than legacy. But with the Woodson name now officially heading back to Ann Arbor, the comparisons, pressure, and expectations have already started building around Michigan’s newest recruit.
