Michigan Football Could Beat Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Despite Underdog Status
The game between Michigan and Indiana is five months away, and the Hoosiers are the favorites. The 2025 CFP National Champions look solid under new head coach Curt Cignetti. However, not everyone agrees with this.
During MGoBlue Podcast's In The Trenches, Jon Jansen and Brian Boesch were recently having a conversation with Michigan OT Blake Frazier.
Jon Jansen said, “They lost a lot on their offensive line. They lost a lot in their entire defense. When you talk about defensive tackles, signal caller, and playmaker as a linebacker on the back end, they lost some playmakers.”
Jansen also noted that the Indiana Hoosiers football team could still enter the matchup as a favorite by October, given preseason expectations and the addition of transfer quarterback Josh Hoover from TCU.

For the kind of changes Kyle Whittingham's Wolverines are going to do, OT Frazier said, “We know we're going to be able to run the ball. We know that we can rush for as many as we need to. But at the end of the day, in this league you have to be able to throw the football.”
Frazier added that pass protection has remained a major focus for Michigan Wolverines football, especially when it comes to keeping the pocket clean for quarterback Bryce Underwood.
On the other hand, Indiana’s roster overhaul includes replacing multiple starters across the offensive line, defensive tackle, linebacker, and secondary, including OL Mike Katic, OL Zach Carpenter, LB Aiden Fisher, LB Jailin Walker, CB D'Angelo Ponds, and DB Amare Ferrell, according to the Daily Hoosiers.
Michigan is also continuing its efforts to bolster the roster through recruiting.
Michigan Planning To Land Two Four-Star Prospects
The Wolverines are targeting two additional four-star prospects to strengthen the roster, WR Quentin Burrell and his high-school teammate DB Tavares Harrington, according to the Michigan Wolverines on SI.
Burrell will announce his commitment on Wednesday and is set to do so on the Rivals' YouTube. While Burrell's impending confirmation will keep Michigan, Notre Dame, Arizona State, and Missouri on their toes, analysts expect Michigan to land his commitment.
Burrell, 6'3", 200‑pound, is the 83rd-ranked prospect in the nation. He also ranks as the nation's No. 14 wide receiver.
Harrington will make his call official on the 22nd of May. The former Mount Carmel prospect is 6'3", 175 pounds. According to Rivals' Recruiting VP Steve Wiltfong, Harrington has a 90.2% chance of landing at Michigan.
He is ranked the No. 124 player in the country.
