Michigan Football Cracks Final Five for 4-Star CB Gabriel Osborne Jr.

The Michigan Wolverines are on a recruiting hot streak and have set their eyes on another four-star player. This time, it is cornerback Gabriel Osborne Jr. who has narrowed down his options to five.

According to a report by Parker Thune for Rivals, Osborne is considering the big five: Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State, and Miami. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back from Mustang High School has risen as one of the most coveted prospects nationally.

The consensus four-star is ranked as the No. 29 overall prospect in the country by Rivals. He is the No. 5 cornerback in the 2027 Rivals300 who racked up impressive numbers in his junior year.

He recorded 65 tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. Osborne also has a claim to some offensive numbers; he caught nine passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns.

Despite his numbers that have programs vying for him, Osborne believes that ranks and accolades don’t define him.

“I don’t think stars matter; I’m not gonna lie,” he told Sooner Scoop. “Because at the end of the day, I came out here with no stars. I just came out here to compete...I earned my stars, and I ain’t even need ’em. You gotta have the mentality just to play football.”

The uncommitted recruit has shifted his focus to the five programs in front of him, and he has officially visited three.

“As of right now, I only have three OV’s set up, which is OU, Ohio State and Alabama,” Osborne said on May 18. “I’m working to get a couple others set up to Michigan and Miami.”

Cornerback coach Jernaro Gilford is Osborne’s primary recruiter. Thanks to him, the Wolverines got a commitment from Darius Johnson, another four-star CB. If he lands Osborne, too, the program would be earning a major weapon.

What Are The Implications Of This Commitment?

Jernaro Gilford, the Michigan Wolverines’ secondary coach, is in his first year with the program. If he convinces elite cornerback Gabriel Osborne Jr. to move to Ann Arbor from Oklahoma, he would be making a major statement for the Wolverines.

According to the Michigan Round Table, the 6’2, 180-pound Osborne fits right into the mold of their successful cornerbacks.

“Long, physical, suffocating cornerbacks who can eliminate an opponent’s top vertical threat without safety help,” Dakota Allen wrote. Osborne can not only solidify their “Big Corner” identity but also help in making a national recruiting statement.

Osborne is a top-30 national prospect and a native of Oklahoma. If the Wolverines secure him from the local Sooners, arch-rivals Buckeyes, and the Crimson Tide, it would prove that they are an “elite” destination for blue-chip defensive talents.

The Wolverines want him in the building, but whether he would pick maize and blue only time can tell. Which program do you think Osborne would pick?
