Michigan Football Gains Edge Over Big Ten School For 2028 Top 10 TE's Commitment
The Michigan Wolverines only hired Kyle Whittingham in December, and the impact is here already. The veteran head coach is wasting no time hitting the road running and already looking at the class of 2028.
Jack McNamara, the tight end who currently plays at Brother Rice High School in Chicago, Illinois, is currently the 10th-ranked player in the state. Among tight ends, McNamara ranks 12th nationally. The new HC's younger brother is now reportedly working on bringing him in.
"Freddie Whittingham is leading the recruiting efforts for 2028 four-star tight end Jack McNamara, who recently took a spring visit to Michigan," according to Maize n Brew's latest X post.
When Kyle Whittingham left Salt Lake City for Ann Arbor, his brother Freddie Whittingham followed along, and he is now the tight ends coach for the Wolverines.
“I had a great time at the visit,” McNamara told Maize n Brew. “I learned a lot of things about the program that I didn’t know before.”
McNamara has taken notice that Michigan has a tradition of producing tight ends every NFL draft. Two of the most recent names are Colston Loveland, who was the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and AJ Barner, who won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks.
“I think that I fit perfectly into their tight end room due to them using hybrid tight ends,” McNamara said. “All of the tight ends are very skilled in both the run and pass game. I can’t wait to see how they perform this season.”
For now, the Whittingham brothers will be happy to know that McNamara has Michigan high on his list.
“Michigan has definitely put themselves very high on my list,” McNamara said. “I plan on coming back next in the summer. I can’t wait to see how they have improved from the spring.”
The youngster has not lacked options. Big Ten programs are circling in with schools like the Ohio State Buckeyes football and the Michigan State Spartans football. The race is wide open, but this latest post shows Michigan Wolverines football appears to have the inside track.
McNamara also spoke about Freddie and Kyle Whittingham.
What Did the Tight End Say About the Whittingham Brothers?
During his visit to Ann Arbor, McNamara got a chance to visit both Freddie and Kyle Whittingham.
“My relationship with coach Freddie Whittingham is very strong and I am excited to see how it will grow,” McNamara said. “He’s a coach that has developed many high level tight ends with lots of experience.
Freddie has been working with tight ends for more than a decade. During his time as TE coach for the Utah Utes, he was responsible for developing Dalton Kincaid, the current Buffalo Bills TE and 2025 Pro Bowler. Another name is Brant Kuithe, a four-time All-Pac-12 member.
“He’s a great person and cares a lot about all of his players in the program,” McNamara said about Kyle Whittingham.
Kyle Whittingham and Freddie Whittingham have been coaching in tandem for more than a decade, and this time, they could look into securing Jack McNamara.
