Michigan Football RB Jordan Marshall on Sherrone Moore: He Made a Mistake
After the sign-stealing scandal, when it rains, it pours for Michigan Football. The former head coach, Sherrone Moore, had an inappropriate relationship with an ex-staffer, Paige Shiver.
The Head coach was given the boot, and since then, his former running back has had some words to say on the situation.
Jordan Marshall, the Wolverine running back who played under Moore last season, said,
“I mean, it was hard, I'm not gonna lie. I did stand by Coach Moore, and I'll still tell people today he's a great coach. I truly believe that he made a mistake, and people make mistakes.... I've always been taught by my mom that one mistake doesn't make somebody.”
The RB is in support of his former head coach; however, the University of Michigan did not see it his way. They fired the HC and replaced him with Kyle Whittingham to take over the reins at Ann Arbor.
Marshall played one season under Sherrone Moore, in which he had 150 carries for 932 rushing yards and 10 total rushing touchdowns.
The running back also received backlash for standing for the fired HC.
“It was hard just realizing... I'm getting bashed because I stuck by somebody that I trusted and that I truly loved. And for me, it's really just, like I said, you have to fall back on your faith and the people that truly love you, because my values are to love everyone as they are and with their mistakes, with their wounds.”
This shows leadership and the maturity of the running back to stand by his head coach, given the circumstances.
What Happens to Sherrone Moore Now?
Moore has been sentenced to 18 months of probation and a felony charge of third-degree home invasion and two misdemeanors.
Paige Shiver, the ex-staffer who Moore had a relationship with even spoke out on the situation.
“Here’s a man (Sherrone Moore) that had complete control over me,” Shiver said in her Good Morning America interview as she publicly spoke for the first time since the incident. “Over my emotions, over my career. He knew that, and he used it against me.”
Moore was also fined just over $1000 for incidents that happened from the misdemeanors at Shivers’ apartment.
However, Shiver's attorneys, Andrew M. Stroth and Steven A. Hart, criticized the sentence.
According to them, it "does not reflect the seriousness of Moore's unlawful entry and aggressive attack on Ms. Shiver on December 10th,” per a statement previously shared with PEOPLE.
As reported by Moore’s attorney, Ellen Michaels, the former Michigan head coach's sentence was deferred. It means the charges will be dismissed if he completes probation.
