Michigan Football Recruiting: Ohio State Eyes Kyle Whittingham's 4-star EDGE target

Fierce rivals, Ohio State appreciates a 6-5, 215-pound edge pass rusher from Farmington, Michigan.

On the show Ohio State INSIDER on YouTube, “Miles Smith, a rising defensive end from Michigan, that they (Ryan Day and Ohio State) really like,” said Jeremy Birmingham on the show.

Myles Smith, a class of 2027 recruit, is a highly rated and highly sought-after defender. The Ohio State Buckeyes made an official offer to the talented defender on February 28, 2026.

The Michigan Wolverines also offered Smith back on November 1, 2025. Former defensive end coach Lou Esposito led the offer, but Esposito is not with the Wolverines after Sherrone Moore was let go by the program.

The Farmington native, Smith, had a successful 2025 campaign. The edge pass rusher racked up 85 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss (TFLs), six sacks, four forced fumbles, and recovered one fumble.

Known for his athleticism, Myles Smith also plays as a starting forward on the Farmington basketball team.

As per On3’s website, not only is Ohio State in the race for the talented defender, but its in-state rivals, Michigan State Spartans, currently hold the highest prediction at approximately 45% to land Myles Smith.

Kyle Whittingham and staff will look to bring Smith to The Big House in 2027, given that he is a Michigan native, and they will look to do everything to make sure they keep it so that he plays his football with the Wolverines.

What Did Myles Smith Say About His Junior Season and Recruitment?

On January 8, 2026, the D Zone asked Smith how he has been handling the increased pressures and all that comes with it.

"I try not to focus on it too much... I try and keep my head down. People are gonna figure who I am out, and if they don't, they don't," said Myles Smith.

The defender had 23 offers to choose from, and people are starting to notice what he is all about.

He also spoke about what coaches liked about his playing style. "They (coaches) like my explosiveness, my speed, and my twitchiness, and how I can play down and in the two-point," said Smith.
