Michigan football targets elite recruits in major push on the recruiting trail

Michigan’s committed 2027 four-star RB and QB have had stellar games this regular season. The Wolverines will continue “big game hunting” this week for more four- and five-stars.

Four-star running back Tyson Robinson and four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati have gotten off to stellar starts to their high school football senior seasons. Both are committed to Michigan for the Wolverines’ 2027 recruiting class and the pair have made big plays in their programs’ wins thus far this regular season.

And though Kyle Whittingham and his staff already have those two targets marked on their whiteboards as future Wolverines, the coaching staff is continuing its big game hunting for top-tier prospects in-state.

Whittingham and offensive line coach Jim Harding were spotted at last week’s Cass Tech high school football game in Detroit. The Cass Tech game featured Michigan target five-star offensive tackle Antijuan Wilkes Jr.

If Michigan can land Cass Tech’s Wilkes, who many view as a future cornerstone on the offensive line, the Wolverines could pair him with current Michigan standout tackle Andrew Babalola as Michigan’s go-to offensive line tandem for years to come. Cass Tech is also home to four-star safety Michigan recruiting target LaMarcus Army and four-star wide receiver recruiting target Mylan Griggs.

On Michigan’s western side in the city of Kalamazoo is four-star offensive tackle prospect Jakari Lipsey. At 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds, Lipsey has already committed to Michigan, officially shutting down his recruitment in May. While LSU, Wisconsin, and Minnesota heavily pursued Lipsey, he is no longer on the market.

Michigan’s offensive line has at times struggled with inconsistent play this season, but if Michigan can land some of this year’s in-state big game recruits, there’s no doubt the Wolverines offensive line will look vastly different and be a strength down the road.

Whittingham has tasked this year’s Michigan recruiting staff to prioritize getting Michigan’s best. Homegrown Michigan talent that want to stay home in the state they’ve lived their entire lives will be key targets, for Michigan to continue competing with the best in the Big Ten and in college football.
