Michigan Football's Depth Chart Projection After Spring Game: Offense
How are the Michigan Wolverines looking after their first official scrimmage at their spring game that took place at The Big House on Saturday, April 18, 2026?
As per a recent piece by NFL writer Clayton Sayfie, here's their possible depth chart for next year.
Quarterback
Starter: Bryce Underwood. The player will be a sophomore and will be the QB1 entering the 2026 season, already confirmed by coach Whittingham.
Backup: Tommy Carr. The player will provide competition and backup to Underwood when needed. Carr has already impressed in the spring game, and eyes will be on him as the season progresses.

Key Depth: Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi. The player brings in experience, having played four seasons with the Colorado State Rams.
The room ends with Chase Herbstreit, who is fourth in line, and Brady Smigiel, who is rehabbing a torn ACL suffered last year.
Running Back
Starter: Jordan Marshall. The Junior will enter the season after a successful 2025 campaign, where he almost hit 1,000 yards. However, the RB had a silent spring game coming off an injury.
Backup: Savion Hiter. The freshman and five-star prospect hit the ground running at the spring game, and there is plenty of excitement around him.
Key Depth: Bryson Kuzdzal. The senior in the 2025 season carried the ball 76 times and rushed for 326 yards and had four touchdowns. Kuzdzal will be called upon as and when needed by Whittingham and staff.
The room ends with Micah Ka’apana and Donovan Johnson. Ka’apana suffered a season-ending leg injury, and Johnson is recovering from back-to-back season-ending knee injuries.
Wide Receiver
Starters: Andrew Marsh. The sophomore played the spring game and will be among the starters for the Wolverines, alongside sophomore JJ Buchanan and freshman Salesi Moa.
Backups: Jamie Ffrench, the sophomore, is among the other backups for the Wolverines, senior Kendrick Bell, and freshman Travis Johnson.
Key Depth: Channing Goodwin, a junior. Jamar Browder, a sophomore. Jacob Washington, a sophomore, and C.J. Charleston, a graduate.
Andrew Marsh had a good 2025 season with 45 receptions and 651 receiving yards with four touchdowns. On the other hand, JJ Buchanan, who followed coach Whittingham to Ann Arbor, can either line up as a tight end or a wide receiver.
Tight End
Starter: Junior Hogan Hansen
Backup: Senior Zack Marshall, senior Deakon Tonielli
Key Depth: Senior Jalen Hoffman, sophomore Eli Ovens.
Eli Ovens was particularly impressive in the spring game and could slot as a fullback; however, Hansen will be the preferred and starting TE for Kyle Whittingham.
Offensive Guard
Left guard starter: Senior Nathan Efobi
Right guard Starter: Senior Brady Norton
Backups: Sophomore Avery Gach, freshman Ace Hamilton.
Offensive tackle
Left tackle starter: Junior Blake Frazier
Right tackle starter: Junior Andrew Sprague
Backups: Senior Evan Link, sophomore Andrew Babalola
Key Depth: Freshman Marky Walbridge, senior Brooks Bahr, freshman Malakai Lee.
Center
Starter: Junior Jake Guarnera
Backup: Sophomore Houston Ka’aha’aina-Torres
Key depth: freshman Ace Hamilton, sophomore Avery Gach.
Michigan's imbalance was hard to miss last season, and if Kyle Whittingham wants to keep his quarterbacks upright, the offensive line has to step up fast. With Bryce Underwood and Tommy Carr already taking five combined sacks in the spring game, there is work to be done.
