Michigan official shares update on AD Warde Manuel’s job status amid damning scrutiny
Michigan's Board of Regents is meeting on Thursday, July 16. However, reports indicate the board is unlikely to discuss the independent investigation into the athletics department, or what holds for athletics director Warde Manuel, in the near future.
Detroit Free Press NFL insider Tony Garcia recently received clarification from a Michigan spokesperson. He revealed that the Board is likely to release a statement soon, but it won't be what everyone expects.
“I wouldn’t expect anything to come out during this Board of Regents meeting (the president will likely address the matter, but not disclose findings), but it sounds like there will be a release of information at some point,” wrote Garcia on his X post on July 14.

The NFL insider shared an image on X, clarifying that the university will determine the appropriate time and manner to communicate the results of the athletics investigation and any actions taken as a result.
This development comes as uncertainty continues to surround Warde Manuel’s future in Michigan Athletics. However, per CBS, the Thursday Board of Regents agenda did not include the independent athletics investigation or Manuel’s employment.
Speculation over Warde Manuel’s future gained momentum after CBS reported that he was not sure what the future holds for him and is looking for options.
While Manuel rejected the reports on Tuesday, he didn’t dismiss the claims of buyout discussions tied to his contract that runs through 2030.
"Don't believe everything that's out there in the world about what people say," Manuel said Tuesday on WTKA. "I don't know what the future holds. I don't know …what's going to happen. I know what today is, I know what tomorrow's going to be. It could happen. I don't know. I don't know what the future is going to be."
While Warde Manuel's future remains uncertain, an Ohio legend believes he could lose his job, regardless of what anyone says.
Ohio Legend believes Warde Manuel could be shown the door
While radio commentor Mike Valenti believes Warde wields too much power for Michigan Athletics to risk firing him, former Ohio RB Beanie Wells claimed on The Script podcast that the chatter behind the scenes tells a different story.
"There’s something up in this program,” Wells said on July 15. “And it’s more to do with behind the scenes. So, I’m of the belief that Warde Manuel probably has to lose his job. There’s something that’s going to come out with this university, where we’re talking about them getting some kind of penalty that no coach out there likes, and no fan is going to like with this program.”
Michigan enjoyed tremendous success under Warde Manuel's leadership, winning its first men's basketball national championship in over three decades and its first football national championship in more than two decades.
However, both championship-winning coaches departed soon after. Furthermore, the recent fiasco surrounding former head coach Sherrone Moore may have become Warde's Trojan horse.
Given that, what do you think will happen to Warde Manuel's job? State your thoughts in the comments.
