Michigan Set To Receive Significant Recruitment News After Top 100 OT Commits
Michigan may have started the 2027 recruiting class slowly, but now, they're set to add depth to their roster with top 100 OT Jakari Lipsey. Wolverines coach Kyle Whittingham has secured the services of the Loy Norrix standout.
"The Wolverines received a big-time commitment last week with top 100 OT Jakari Lipsey announcing his commitment to Kyle Whittingham and co, and it appears that more high-profile commits could be on the way," wrote Jordan Bruetsch of GBMWolverine.com.
The four-star offensive tackle from Kalamazoo (MI) ranked as high as No. 104 nationally and No. 3 in Michigan for the 2027 class. A physical athlete standing at 6'5" and 285 pounds, Lipsey is known for his versatility and athleticism.
In addition to that, there are a few more commitments that are expected. RB Tyson Robinson is set to make his decision official on May 16th. Then there's EDGE Jayce Brewer and also Quentin Burrell, whose name is doing the rounds.

Whittingham is looking set to get his players up and running. Lipsey joins Sidney Rouleau and Louis Esposito as part of a strong offensive line foundation for the 2027 class.
Lipsey is already creating quite some hype from the Michigan fanbase, and that shows. From the looks of it, Michigan is just getting started.
Michigan Looks To Build On With More Recruits
In his first season as the Michigan head coach, Kyle Whittingham is doing just fine. Using Michigan's Director of Player Personnel, Ron Bellamy, he is beefing up the recruiting process in the state.
If Quinton Burrell gives his nod, Michigan will land three players in the top 150 overall in the past month.
For 2028, Michigan fans also have another target in sight in OT Mataio Fano. He is the younger brother of Cleveland Browns 2026 draft pick OT Spencer Fano.
Mataio Fano is big and physical. The 6'5" player, who is almost 240 pounds, is ranked 23rd overall in the 2027 class by 247 Sports. Moreover, he's ranked 75th in the composite rankings.
Fano has that connection with Michigan. He has familiarity with EDGE coach Lewis Powell, as his brother Logan played for them.
"I’ve known them for a while, and I’ve just basically grown up with them," Fano said.
So right now it's an open field for Fano. Although there are also other suitors looking for Mataio (Miami and Oregon), it does feel like Michigan has the overall edge in getting him on board.
