Nation's No. 1 Overall Recruit Puts Texas Tech Under Pressure After Making SEC Visits
Jalen Brewster, a five-star defensive lineman, is exploring his options—despite being committed to Texas Tech. He paid a visit to the Florida Gators, and he spoke about which two SEC programs, which happen to be huge rivals, have appealed to him.
“LSU and Florida are big contenders in my recruitment,” said Brewster, according to Gators Wire on June 15.
Brewster had revisited the Gators, who have hosted him a number of times by now. The Cedar Hills player was present for two spring practices, and the weekend was his official visit.
This rings alarm bells for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who have just a verbal commitment from Brewster. These SEC programs are adamant about landing him, as he evaluates other options.
The Gators’ successful recruiting trail has attracted elite talent like Brewster and another five-star prospect, Easton Royal, who accompanied him last weekend.
When asked to describe his visit, Brewster said it “was good” and that “great being back at Florida, it's always love.”
He also shared his impression of Florida’s defensive line coach Gerald Chatman, which was ravingly positive.
“He's a real good coach. He don't take no b* either. You come in there with the mindset to work or go somewhere else.” Brewster shared. “You want to be coached by the best D-line coach in the SEC, and get developed into a first-round draft pick.”
The No.1 recruit’s official season visit at Texas Tech is scheduled from June 19-21. Gators Wire had listed Brewster as a “top priority” for new head coach Jon Sumrall.
His focus is to build an “elite” offensive and defensive front, and it starts with the line of scrimmage. So what makes Brewster such a coveted prospect?
What Is Jalen Brewster's Recruting Profile Like?
247 Sports’ scouting analyst Gabe Brooks described Jalen Brewster as a “strong’ and “explosive” front-line defender. At 6’3 and 302 lbs, Brewster offers both size and athleticism.
“Flashes a heavy inside hand coupled with stack-and-shed strength. Boasts impressive two-way snaps as a successful jumbo wildcat option,” he wrote about the disruptive player.
In 2024, he played sophomore snaps on both sides of the ball as a defensive lineman and a short-yardage ball carrier. Brooks also stated that Brewster, the son of Robert Brewster, who was picked in the third round by the Dallas Cowboys, has a “strong football pedigree.”
According to 247, he has 29 offers, with the Florida Gators still vying for him. Whether Brewster remains committed to Texas Tech for flips, remains to be seen.
