Nation’s No. 1 WR & Texas commit Easton Royal ‘losing sleep’ after Florida visit

The highly touted wide receiver, Easton Royal, has been committed to the Texas Longhorns since November 2025. However, another SEC rival might snatch Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian's sleep.

Royal is keeping his options open. He does plan to return to Austin later in the weekend for his final official visit. However, the wide receiver believes that the competition is close after the Florida Gators visit on June 11.

"It’s tighter than ever," the wide receiver told the Rivals network's reporter Sam Spiegelman on June 16, "It's something to definitely lose sleep about."

Other than Texas and Florida, Royal has many suitors, including the LSU Tigers. Ole Miss Rebels and the Tennessee Volunteers were also on the list, but he cancelled their official visits.

The 5-11, 200-pounder's athleticism sets him apart, running a 10.26-second 100 meters as a sophomore, bringing in unmatched intensity.

"I’m ready to be back at the crib, just be around the coaching staff, other recruits, current players, and just be back home," said Royal to Spiegelman as he is ready for an official visit to Austin on June 19.

However, the Gators have made quite a lasting impression on Royal, and his allegiance might just flip if Texas isn't careful.

Easton Royal is a marquee name among the list of 2027 prospective candidates, and he has been very vocal about his liking for Florida, which puts Sarkisian and the Longhorns on high alert.

How Florida stands out in the Easton Royal recruitment race

When it comes to On3's 2027 Football Team Recruiting Rankings, Jon Sumrall's program is at No. 6 with 23 recruits, while Texas is yet to find a spot within the top 10. They are at No.11 with 15 recruits.

So, whichever team lands the No.1 wide receiver, it is going to boost their rankings. Chances are high for the Gators.

"Florida's probably the only school that I know with five receiver coaches, and some people may think that's a bad thing, but I think that's a really good thing," Royal said per Gatorswire USA Today, "The best thing about it, there's no egos. So everybody just genuinely wants to see everybody be the best they can be. Just the attention to detail with everything, it's very rare"

Royal also stated how he enjoyed the family-like atmosphere he experienced on campus.

The 5'11" receiver has already generated hype because of his sharp playing style. He also envisions himself as Florida's wide receiver

"That's why they always tell me, if I do decide to come here, I'm an important receiver," said Royal," I'll be the guy, day one, plug and play, to be able to replace Eric Singleton."

This weekend is crucial for both Texas and Florida as Royal makes an important decision.

Which program will be able to land his commitment? Let us know in the comments.
