NFL Analyst Drops Report Over Tommy Carr’s Future With Michigan Wolverines

Not even a single game into his college career yet, and legacy recruit Tommy Carr has an analyst from the NFL talking about him. If anything, that is a good sign for the young quarterback out of Saline, Michigan.

Tommy Carr, the true freshman quarterback, had an impressive showing in the scrimmage at Michigan’s annual spring game, and NFL analyst Chris Vannini praised the young QB.

“Didn’t learn much about Michigan in terms of starters and who’s back, but freshman quarterback Tommy Carr looked really good,” Vannini said. “Like, he’s not gonna start over Bryce Underwood. He looked good, he’s six foot four, he can move, good numbers, that’s a prototypical guy right there.”

Carr did even better than his QB1, Bryce Underwood. The Saline, Michigan, native went 21-for-30 for 143 passing yards. His opposite number, Bryce Underwood, struggled and went 3-of-9 for only 22 yards, but played only one quarter in the spring game.

However, no matter all the praise, Coach Kyle Whittingham has confirmed that sophomore and former five-star prospect and number one player in the country, Bryce Underwood, will be the starting signal-caller for the Michigan Wolverines.

Tommy Carr comes from Michigan royalty; his father, Jason, is a U-M graduate and former quarterback from 1992 to 1995. Both his grandfathers (Lloyd Carr and Tom Curtis) were also associated with the Wolverines.

While Lloyd brought a National Championship to The Big House in 1997 split with the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Once committed to the Miami Red Hawks, Tommy Carr flipped that pledge to go to the school his family has a history with, and he is already making a name for himself.

What Did Coach Whittingham Say About Tommy Carr?

This is also the first game for Kyle Whittingham in any capacity. The veteran head coach took over after spending two decades in Salt Lake City, Utah. And Tommy also impressed his head coach.

“Well, first of all, he has that ‘It’ factor for a quarterback, that confidence, that field general mentality, the way he carries himself. He’s a football junkie,” said Whittingham.

Something Jim Harbaugh also said about his then-quarterback, JJ McCarthy. But Whittingham is all in on Tommy.

“I believe Tommy’s success is still really early in his career, but what he’s doing out there is pretty impressive… Tommy Carr showed poise,” Whittingham added.

For Tommy, this was his first attempt playing in front of the stadium he attended as a kid.

“Yeah, it was pretty crazy,” said Carr. “Something I always pictured myself doing as a kid. So just to be out there was an unreal experience.”

It all bodes well for the new coaching staff, as one less headache they have to worry about is their quarterback room, which is clearly stacked with two young QB’s who will push each other going into the fall.
