OC Jason Beck Travels 1,000 Miles to Help Michigan Secure 4-Star Prospect

The Michigan Wolverines’ coaching staff is leaving no stone unturned in hopes of securing a standout running back.

Brice Marich made an X post about the trip Wolverines’ offensive coordinator, Jason Beck, and running backs coach Tony Alford took to Mississippi, just hours after Tyson Robinson posted a picture with the two.

“#Michigan OC Jason Beck and RB coach Tony Alford checked on Brandon (MS.) 2027 four-star RB Tyson Robinson,” the Michigan reporter posted on May 9. “The Top247 tailback holds nearly 40 offers and is slated to make a commitment on May 16th.”

Described as “one of the most coveted tailbacks in the nation” by Michigan RoundTable Sports, Robinson, an undeclared four-star RB, is set to make his commitment on May 16.

Robinson is one of the most sought-after players of the 2027 class, who has received 38 scholarship offers so far.

Arizona State, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Texas are some of the programs that want him to don their colors. As of April 17, ESPN noted that he has visited only the first three.

In his May 10 article, Dakota Allen noted that Robinson has “a rare blend of compact power and track-verified speed.”

As a freshman, he completed the 100-yard dash in 11.15 seconds and the 200-yard dash in 23.38 seconds. Robinson then led Brandon High School to a 12-2 record and appeared in Mississippi’s 7A title game.

He displayed a 42 catch, 668 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns performance. Robison also added 176 carries for 1,295 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns.

With such stats, Robinson is a “verified playmaker” who compelled the Wolverines recruiting team to visit him.

Tyson Robinson Could Be Michigan’s Crowning Jewel Of This Season’s Recruit Drive

As per Dakota Allen’s article, “the Wolverines' pursuit of Robinson is spearheaded by Tony Alford.” He was retained by their new head coach, Kyle Whittingham, for his long-standing reputation as one of the best recruiters in the business.

Alford, reportedly, visited Brandon in late January to persuade Robinson. Taking along Jason Beck this time, however, “signals a high level of priority.” The Wolverines are facing tough competition for the RB from 37 programs.

Landing him would further cement their status as “running back university.” Did the personal visit to Brandon persuade Robinson to come down to Ann Arbor? We will find out on May 16.

Till then, tell us your thoughts in the comments.
